An Apple A Day Keeps The Strokes Away

by: Duke Mansell

(NaturalNews) Strokes can occur at any age but three-quarters strike those over the age of 65. Many people are always on the hunt for the superfood that will protect them from degenerative diseases, and few are as scary as the aftermath of a stroke. If you survive, you are usually left with debilitating health consequences due to lack of oxygen to the brain, which can leave you mild health issues or requiring around the clock nursing care. Fruits and vegetables are staples of health and are sure to assist in prevention, but which are best for people specifically concerned with a pending stroke in terms of prevention?

Enzymes

A recent study from researchers at Wageningen University in the Netherlands published in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association indicates fruits with white flesh such as apples and pears can reduce the risk of stroke by 52%. Strokes are the third leading cause of death in the United states with over 143,579 people dying each year. Approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke annually meaning 650,000 survive their stroke and are left to suffer the post-stroke health conditions for the remainder of their lives. These post-stroke health conditions include (in no specific order): difficulty moving one side of the body and trouble speaking, which cause many mini-symptoms in and of themselves such as difficulty swallowing, aphasia (slurred speech or inability to speak at all), hemiplegia (weakness on one side of the body), or difficulty with bowel and bladder control. Some conditions do resolve depending on the severity of the stroke but worst case scenarios for survivors include loss of cognitive functioning equal to Alzheimer's, inability to walk or use appendages and never being able to speak again. All of these problems can be life altering if they are unable to return to normal post stroke.

This study compared vegetables and fruits of different colors to determine which would be most beneficial in preventing a stroke. The fruits and vegetables were broken down in color into the following groups:
-cabbages, lettuces and other dark green leafy vegetables
-orange and yellow colors, most of which were citrus fruits
-red and purple colors, most of which were red vegetables
-white colors, apples and pears making up 55% of the whites

The follow-up period was 10 years and the researches documented 233 strokes. They observed that strokes were not reduced in any significant manner by consumption of orange/yellow and red /purple fruits. However, vegetables and white fruits were found to lower the risk of developing stroke by 52%. A reduction of this size is significant considering the size of the study included 20,069 adults with an average age of 41 years old (none of whom had any cardiovascular disease when the study began).

Many people base a lot of their fruit and vegetable purchase on the dark colors of leafy greens and fruits because of the knowledge that they contain more antioxidants, but it appears white fruits also play an important part of the puzzle in lowering the risk of strokes. By increasing your white fruit and vegetable consumption by 25 grams there was a 9% reduction in stroke risk. On average an apple weights 120 grams, meaning for every quarter apple you eat you average close to 10% less chance of having a stroke.

These researchers indicated that further studies are needed to verify their work. If apples, pears and other fruits with white edible portions can reduce the risk of developing stroke by 52%, pass the apple pie please.

Fukushima Debris To Wash Up On Hawaii Beaches & US Coastline

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) The 9.0+ mega earthquake and tsunami that rocked Japan back in March caused millions of tons of debris to wash into the Pacific Ocean. And for the first time, some of that debris has been spotted drifting between Russia and Hawaii, where officials expect it to hit Hawaiian shores much sooner than their original two-years-from-now estimate.

Zeolite
Radiation Protocol

Russian researcher Nikolai Maximenko and his team recently identified household appliances, furniture, plastic material, and even boats floating in Pacific waters during a recent trek home from Honolulu to Russia aboard the STS Pallada. Their discovery represents the first documented case of Fukushima rubble being identified in waters, and heading towards US land.

"We have a rough estimate of five to 20 million tons of debris coming from Japan," said University of Hawaii (UH) computer programming researcher Jan Hafner to KITV 4 News in Honolulu. "[The Russian team] saw some pieces of furniture, some appliances, anything that can float, and they picked up a fishing boat. That's actually our first confirmed report of tsunami debris."

The Fukushima earthquake and tsunami sent a lot more than just small objects out to sea, though. Early reports showed entire buildings, including homes and warehouses, being sent into ocean waters. And while much of this larger debris ended up sinking, masses of it are still floating en route to shorelines in Hawaii and other places.

"We projected [the debris] would hit Midway in spring of next year, but based on the Pallada finding, the debris seems to be moving faster," added Hafner, noting that he has been tracking the progression of the debris using a detailed computer analysis of ocean currents. "We don't want to create a panic, but it's good to know it's coming."

What this means for Hawaiians is that they must prepare to receive unknown tons of Fukushima waste on their pristine coastlines. All that waste has to go somewhere, and unless protocols are enacted to divert or contain it, it will eventually begin piling up on some of the world's most popular beaches.

And within the next several years, Washington, Oregon, and California are expected to face the same dilemma. Fukushima debris that bypasses Hawaii will eventually make its way to the western coastlines of the US mainland as well.

How And Why To Take Cancer Prevention Seriously

by: Kim Evans

(NaturalNews) Perhaps the number one reason to take cancer prevention seriously is that cancer often grows in the body for twenty years before it is detected. That means that people diagnosed with cancer in their thirties started growing it in their teens. If they're diagnosed in their forties, it's probably been around since their twenties. This means two things. One, lifestyle habits are both so toxic and off-based for what the human body requires that lots of people are getting sick way before even what we think of as their time. Second, it means that there is plenty of time to address the problem while it's small and manageable. So, what can you do?

Anti-cancer Protocol

One of the most important things you can do is to keep your diet vegetarian, omit dairy, and keep processed foods to a minimum or leave them out all together. Processed foods aren't natural for us, so with time and quantity, they'll cause problems. And with GMOs so heavily dispersed in them, they're far worse now than even twenty years ago.

The best cancer prevention diet centers around fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, and herbs. Adding in lots of mushrooms is great too. While you don't have to do all raw all the time, as much of it that you can is your best bet too.

There is so much research on these foods for cancer and disease prevention that it's mind-boggling, although most of it centers around one food or another. But, if you start to add it all up, it becomes clear what the diet is that prevents most diseases, and it's a diet from nature that doesn't include meat or dairy.

Adding lots of broccoli, greens, beets, and cabbage while omitting GMO foods, like corn, is also a good idea. And if you get into juicing, you can deliciously consume far more of these key foods than most people can eat.

Then, get lots of sunshine too. There is an abundance of information that adequate vitamin D levels prevent cancer and other diseases, so make weekends your sun time and have lunch outside when you can too. The reality that humans spend so much time indoors is also unnatural for us. The fact is most of the diseases we suffer from weren't around a few thousand years ago, or if they were, they were rare. So, what does this tell us? Our unnatural diets and lifestyles are creating them.

Aside from diets that are sugared, carb laden, and processed, many chemicals in the air, water, and the products around us are also known to cause cancer and other diseases. And while a plant-based diet is detoxifying, there's a lot more you can do too. Getting into enemas, particularly coffee enemas, to clean the waste from your liver is also key.

It's actually thought that our liver, our prime detoxification organ, has become largely a storage site for toxins that our bodies are unable to remove. Plus, there are all of those toxic chemicals that are always in our blood and found by any scientist who looks – and those chemicals are known to cause cancer and pretty much any disease imaginable. But the good news is: the solution to remove them is for anyone who takes the steps.

Other than that, just avoid as many chemicals as you can. The truth is, you'll overt a lot of suffering with a lifestyle program like this, and you'll also find yourself happier on a day to day basis too. This is because a lot of the stuff you'll avoid negatively affects our brains and emotions.

Fluoride and Infants – Why Parents Are Not Being Told About Fluorosis

by: Doug Cragoe

(NaturalNews) Millions of infants have been overdosed with fluoride due to powdered infant formula being combined with fluoridated tap water. Parents, who prepare infant formula, have been deliberately kept in the dark regarding the risks of this overdose, for the simple reason that it casts doubt on water fluoridation. Because newborns only consume liquids, they receive much larger doses of fluoride than adults when you factor in body size. This overdose increases the risk of fluorosis.

Zeolite
Bentonite Clay

In 2006 the Centers for Disease Control and the American Dental Association posted warnings on their websites advising caution when preparing powdered infant formula. They suggested parents use non-fluoridated water to avoid the increased risk of fluorosis. Fluorosis is a developmental disturbance that causes permanent spots or streaks to appear on a child`s teeth. Today there is increasing scientific evidence that fluorosis also results in a lowered IQ and more bone fractures. Called a "low grade chronic poisoning" by H. Trendly Dean, the father of fluoridation, fluorosis has always been a negative side effect of water fluoridation. It was accepted as a trade-off for reducing tooth decay through fluoridation. But the latest survey showed that 40% of American teenagers have fluorosis. This year the federal government proposed lowering the amount of fluoride added to tap water to reduce fluorosis.

Yet in the midst of this great increase in fluorosis most public health agencies have decided not to do anything except post web pages. They have not called for warnings to be placed on infant formula packaging. They have not called for educating doctors, dentists and parents about this issue. The WIC programs (Women, Infants, Children) hand out free powdered infant formula to low-income parents. But very few WIC programs will inform parents about the fluorosis risk when the formula is prepared with fluoridated tap water. A typical example is in Mississippi where a state dental official wrote:

"Based on the critical need to reduce the impact of untreated dental disease on children in Mississippi, the Oral Health Program does not advise the WIC Program to discuss fluorosis and community water fluoridation. We should make consumer-friendly information on fluorosis available as the need arises. But our goal is to eradicate tooth decay and we appreciate the WIC programs support to encourage not discourage the use of optimally fluoridated water."

In other words, the idea that fluoridated water is a bad choice for infants could "discourage the use of optimally fluoridated water" for other age groups. Here is what parents should know about this issue:

1 Very few in the public health or the scientific community say that newborn infants receive a benefit from the fluoride found in tap water. Of the few that advocate fluoride for this age group, none has said how much benefit infants might expect because no studies have been done that show a benefit for infants.

2 Mother`s breast milk is acknowledged as the best nutrition for infants. Breast milk is extremely low in fluoride. Nobody in public health is advocating that parents give fluoride supplements to infants on breast milk. Nobody is saying infants consuming breast milk will have more tooth decay than infants consuming formula made with fluoridated tap water.

3 For decades public health agencies have said that fluorosis is only a "cosmetic effect." But the cosmetic dentistry required to fix ugly fluorosed teeth can be expensive. And there now is increasing evidence that fluorosis causes more harm than simply malformed teeth.

The truth is that public health agencies have refused to inform the public about this risk to infants for the simple reason that it casts doubt on fluoridation.

Foreclosures Are Invalid Because Banks Dont Have Promissory Notes

by: Ethan A. Huff

(NaturalNews) More than five million US homeowners and counting have had their homes foreclosed upon by banks since the "economic crisis" first began several years ago. But the Massachusetts Supreme Court recently ruled that the vast majority of the foreclosures that took place in the Commonwealth (and likely in most other states) within the past five years are illegitimate because the banks did not, and do not, actually hold the promissory notes for the properties.

This means that all mortgage payments made to banks for illegitimately foreclosed upon properties are fraudulent since such banks do not technically own the properties in question. It also means that anyone who purchased a foreclosed property, or who is threatened currently with potential foreclosure, does not necessarily have a legal obligation to continue paying their mortgage.

Even homeowners who do not face foreclosure are not necessarily required to continue paying their mortgages — if their lenders are unable to produce valid promissory notes showing true ownership of the property. Then those who follow through with mortgage payments to such lenders are technically participating in fraud because there is no way to verify whether or not mortgage payments are going to the true note holders, or even who the true note holders are in the first place.

"In essence, the ruling [upholds] that those who had purchased a foreclosure property that had been illegally foreclosed upon (which is virtually all foreclosure sales in the last five years), did not in fact have title to the property," writes The Daily Bail. "Given the fact that more than two-thirds of all real estate transactions in the last five years have also been foreclosed properties, this creates a small problem."

Recognizing that the federal government's bailout plan was beneficial only to banks and not homeowners, Rep. Marcy Kaptur of Ohio told those facing foreclosure back in 2009 to "be squatters in [their] own home" (http://articles.sfgate.com/2009-02-…). Now that these foreclosures have been exposed as largely fraudulent, it turns out that her advice was sound.

"Radical though it may seem, we believe the only way to stop the chaos of fraud and the breakdown of the rule of law in our courts, and most importantly to ensure that we ourselves are not participants in the fraud, is for homeowners who can afford their mortgage to stop paying it," says The Daily Bail.

Find Out More About The Amazing Nutrient CoQ10

by: Paul Fassa

(NaturalNews) Coenzyme Q10, known as CoQ10, is highly regarded as a super antioxidant. But is it for real? CoQ10 gets a lot of good press, but it's not cheap. So to buy and try or not to buy and try is the question. Not all supplements live up to their reputation, and not all supplements are right for everyone. Let's examine CoQ10 a bit.

CoQ10

Who is and who isnt

CoQ10 is not a magic bullet. It is an important compound that our bodies produce, but production declines as we age. It functions best in conjunction with a decent diet and other quality supplements. Foods such as organic organ meats, oily fish, spinach, peanuts, and whole grains provide some CoQ10.

It likes to lodge in the parts of our cells that produce energy, and is instrumental for producing the molecule adenosine-5-triphosphate (ATP). ATP is a major source of cellular energy, and it's involved with several metabolic processes within the cell, including protein production.

Beside its antioxidant capabilities, which scavenge damaging free radicals that cause cellular damage, it appears able to repair oxidative damage. CoQ10 prevents problematic blood clotting. All these qualities have made it a favorite for increasing cardiovascular health and for preventing heart diseases or recovering rapidly from heart problems.

In addition to hundreds of reports from Japanese doctors on CoQ10's positive effects with heart patients, Dr. Denton Cooley found that most of his heart disease patients were CoQ10 deficient. His finding corroborates discoveries from Karl Folker, Ph.D, who had originally researched CoQ10 in the west.

For athletic types or those who are involved in strenuous activities, CoQ10 offers rapid recovery times from spent energy and muscular stress as well as additional energy too for competing athletically or completing arduous physical tasks.

Even More Benefits

Perhaps the most unusual benefit is how CoQ10 helps kidneys recover from renal failure. Obviously it should also help those with less drastic kidney conditions.

A 2003 study published in the Journal of Nutritional and Environmental Medicine showed dramatic improvement in renal failure patients who took CoQ10 compared to those who took the placebo. Some who were on dialysis were even eventually able to manage without.

As an aside, it seems cruel to conduct test trials using placebos, depriving those of the benefits found with what's being tested. But that's the way modern mainstream medicine does it.

In addition to those tests, testing is being conducted to determine the effects of CoQ10 on neurological diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. The focus for testing is on the early phases of those diseases. The intention is to prevent them from fully manifesting.

Keep in mind that CoQ10 is a naturally occurring compound sold over the counter as a supplement. Perhaps Big Pharma is on the sidelines trying to figure out how to replicate CoQ10 in a lab and get it patented.

If that occurs, those obscure trials on renal failure and neurological disorders may become very public with the over-the-counter supplement banned. Now is the time to buy and try to determine if it works well for you.

Gardasil Vaccine Dangerous and Useless In Preventing Cervical Cancer

by: Ethan A. Huff

(NaturalNews) The massive controversy over Texas Gov. Rick Perry's appalling 2007 executive order mandating that all young girls in his state receive Merck & Co.'s Gardasil vaccine before entering school has brought the issue of the vaccine's safety and effectiveness, or lack thereof, back to the forefront of the national conversation. And a European physician has now openly spoken out against Gardasil, claiming that it is both dangerous and completely ineffective at preventing cervical cancer.

Vaccine Protocol

Dr. Christian Fiala, a general practitioner from Vienna, Austria, told WorldNetDaily (WND) in a recent report that Merck's Gardasil does not actually work to prevent cervical cancer, and that it is not safe. According to Dr. Fiala, "there is no proof of a causal relationship of HPV (human papillomavirus) and cervical cancer, and there is no evidence that HPV vaccine reduces the overall number of cervical cancer (cases)."

Assuming for a moment that the Gardasil vaccine actually does help prevent HPV, Dr. Fiala asserts that HPV is not even itself responsible for causing cervical cancer, which makes the vaccine completely useless at accomplishing the very thing for which it is marketed. And as we previously reported, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also known since at least 2003 that HPV is not associated with causing cervical cancer as well.

But none of this has stopped Merck and its lackeys in the government and media from continuing to endorse the "money-making machine without any benefits for patients," as Dr. Fiala calls it. And this was made abundantly clear when the mainstream media went on its rampage against Rep. Michele Bachmann following her recent comments about Gardasil's dangers at the GOP presidential debates.

Dr. Fiala has been fighting against Gardasil in Austria for years, especially after several otherwise healthy and vibrant young girls in his country died just days after receiving their Gardasil vaccines. And while Gardasil is still legal in Austria, Dr. Fiala says it is "used infrequently," thanks to widespread awareness of its potential to seriously injure and kill those who receive it.

"To say Gardasil has a suspect safety record is a big understatement," said Tom Fitton, president of Washington watchdog group Judicial Watch, to WND. His group uncovered documents back in 2008 revealing that the FDA has known for a while that Gardasil is responsible for causing anaphylactic shock, foaming at the mouth, grand mal convulsions, coma, and paralyzation, among other things.

"These reports are troubling and show that the FDA and other public health authorities may be asleep at the switch."

First Mexican Shipping Truck To Cross US Border

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) Beginning this week, Mexican truckers will officially be allowed to bypass border inspections and drive directly into the US to deliver their goods. The pilot program not only complies with provisions set forth in the North American Free Trade Agreement of 1994, but it also ratchets up another notch towards a North American Union (NAU), where borders among the US, Mexico, and Canada are virtually eliminated. For years, public outcry and concern by some politicians over its sweeping implications have prevented the new trucking policy from being implemented. After all, drug trafficking, illegal entry by Mexican immigrants, and even violent standoffs at the border are already problematic under the current system, which requires that Mexican truckers transfer their goods to US truckers at the border.

But under the new system, Mexican truckers will be permitted to freely cross the border and drive deep into America's heartland. For the inaugural event, Mexican trucking company Transportes Olympic will cross over the US border at Laredo, Tex., on Wed., Oct. 26, where it will travel 450 miles north to Garland, Tex., to deliver industrial equipment.

According to the Associated Press (AP), US Reps. Duncan Hunter (R-San Diego) and Bob Filner (D-San Diego) have expressed bipartisan opposition to the plan, which not only threatens thousands of American jobs, but also opens wide the floodgates of open entry into the US.

"There's absolutely no upside to the program," said Joe Kasper, a spokesman for Rep. Hunter's office, to the AP. "It's a good example of foreign interests overtaking American interests, at the expense of jobs, security and safety. The program was a bad idea when it was created under NAFTA and it's a bad idea now. It should be stopped right away."

Todd Spencer, owner-operator of the Independent Drivers Association (IDA), an international trade organization that promotes the interests of truck drivers, shares a similar sentiment. Spencer told the AP that "the beneficiaries of opening border (sic) will be few and the casualties will be plenty."

All Mexican trucks participating in the program will be required to have electronic monitoring devices installed, and their drivers will have to submit to criminal background checks and be able to speak English. But in reality, these protocols will do little to nothing to prevent the wave of new criminal activity that is sure to arise.

Vitamin B-Based Treatment May Cure Eye Disease

by: S. L. Baker

(NaturalNews) One of 2,000 people in the U.S. is diagnosed each year with keratoconus, a vision-robbing disease usually first spotted during the teenage years. The cause isn't understood, but it is known to damage the collagen fibers that form the structure of the cornea (the outer surface of the eye). It's the cornea that allows the eye to focus properly. As keratoconus worsens over time, the cornea degenerates and becomes thinner, bulges outwards and makes clear vision impossible. Standard treatments for the disease in the U.S. include specialized eyeglasses, hard contact lenses, and implanted lenses. However, none of these can permanently correct keratoconus. Severe cases often require corneal transplants, which are not only expensive but may not always "take."

Methyl B-12
But now there is a stunning development that may soon change this outlook for those suffering from this eye disease. At the 115th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology currently underway in Orlando, Florida, scientist Paolo Vinciguerra, MD, just announced the results of a study showing a vitamin-based treatment that may permanently cure keratoconus in many people.

The new treatment, which has already proven effective in Europe and other parts of the world, is called collagen crosslinking and involves applying riboflavin (a B vitamin) to the cornea, which is then exposed to a specific form of ultraviolet light. The results? Collagen fibers regenerate with new bonds forming between them, increasing the strength and stiffness of the cornea.

The treatment not only has a high success rate in restoring vision, but it also actually combats the causes of keratoconus — the degeneration of collagen — and reduces the odds the eye disease will ever return.

Results of Dr. Vinciguerra's clinical trial in Milan, Italy, showed the vitamin treatment improved vision in approximately 70 percent of patients. Dr. Vinciguerra's new study confirmed that adverse effects are rare and the procedure seems to be extraordinarily safe. The treatment is currently in clinical trials in the United States and is expected to receive FDA approval in 2012.

In an American Academy of Ophthalmology session entitled "Long-term Results of Corneal Crosslinking for Keratoconus", Dr. Vinciguerra described the treatment of more than 250 keratoconus patients who received the collagen crosslinking at his clinic. Sixty-eight percent of the 500 eyes treated gained significant visual acuity. What's more, these improvements remained stable at the end of a 3 year follow-up period.

"For many people with keratoconus, collagen crosslinking can provide a better and more permanent solution to their vision problems," Dr. Vinciguerra said in a media statement. "Given that no current treatment in use in the U.S. offers permanent correction, this effective option represents a significant advance for corneal medicine."

Soda Consumption Linked To Teen Violence

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) A new study has found that teenagers who consume high amounts of sugary soda appear to be more prone towards violence than teenagers who consume less or no sugary soda. The more soda a teenager consumes, in other words, the more likely he or she is to show violent aggression towards classmates, a significant other, and even family members.

Intramax
David Hemenway, a professor at Harvard University's School of Public, and his colleagues instructed a group of 1,878 public school students from inner-city Boston to fill out questionnaires about how much soda they had consumed in the previous seven days. The questionnaires also asked the students how often they carried weapons, consumed alcohol, smoked, and had a violent interaction with another person.

The students, who ranged in age between 14 and 18, also answered other background questions about how often they ate meals with their families, and their race. After compiling the data and accounting for other outside factors, the research team discovered that soda intake was directly proportional to violence levels.

"What we found was that there was a strong relationship between how many soft drinks that these inner-city kids consumed and how violent they were, not only in violence against peers but also violence in dating relationships, against siblings," said Hemenway. "It was shocking to us when we saw how clear the relationship was."

The results showed that students who drank one or no cans of sugary soda a week were nearly half as likely as students who drank 14 cans a week to carry a gun or knife to school. The one or no soda group was also about half as likely to commit violence against a partner, or show violent aggression against peers, compared to the high-consumption group.

"We don't know why (there is a strong association)," added Hemenway. "There may be some causal effect but it's also certainly plausible that this is just a marker for other problems — that kids who are violent for whatever reason, they tend to smoke more, they tend to drink more alcohol and they tend to maybe drink more soft drinks. We just don't know."
