Boosting Nitric Oxide Levels Keeps Us Healthy As We Age

by Dr. W. Giffordjones

Feeling tired? Falling asleep in the afternoon? Losing your keys or interest in sex? Are you concerned about cardiovascular disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, high cholesterol, diabetes and its complications? Or want to limit the pain and swelling of arthritis, calm the inflammation of asthma and assist the immune system in fighting infection? If so, you may need a new revolutionary natural remedy NEO40 to increase your level of nitric oxide (NO).

My initial reaction to this news was, "It's too good to be true!" But three researchers received the prestigious Nobel Prize for this discovery. Louise J. Ignarro, one of the prize winners, says, "There may be no disease process where this miracle molecule does not have a protective role."

Dr. Nathan S. Bryan at the University of Texas, a world authority on nitric oxide, adds that NO can have a huge effect on all these medical problems.

Bryan says that, for 100 years, researchers have known that nitroglycerine eased coronary pain by increasing blood supply to the heart's muscle. But it remained a mystery why these arteries expanded. Now we know it is due to the miracle molecule nitric oxide, which, when produced, sends messages to every cell in the body in nanoseconds.

Nitric oxide first attained star status in the treatment of male impotence. Erectile dysfunction is cured by drugs that produce NO, sending increased amounts of blood to the penis.

Early in life we produce large amounts of NO in the endothelial lining (the innermost lining) of blood vessels. This keeps arteries expanded. But after age 40, production of nitric oxide decreases, arteries constrict causing hypertension and constant pressure injures the inner wall of coronary arteries. This damage results in a chemical and inflammatory reaction that kills one North American every 37 seconds.

Twenty-seven million North Americans also suffer from arthritis, a debilitating condition. Researchers at the University of Colorado say that when NO increases circulation, nerve and joint inflammation decreases, which can result in dramatic relief to patients with osteoarthritis.

Another 25 million North Americans suffer from Type 2 diabetes due to obesity and 57 million others have borderline diabetes. High blood sugar gradually destroys the circulatory system resulting in heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, amputation of legs, and it doubles the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

It's believed that decreased amounts of NO may play a major role in the development of Type 2 diabetes. Low levels of NO result in insulin resistance, making it difficult for insulin to enter cells to maintain a normal blood sugar level. Italian researchers found that diabetes patients who also had kidney disease had NO levels 37 per cent lower than healthy people.

Researchers at the University of Calgary report that nitric oxide levels are significantly lower in patients suffering from depression. So if you're feeling glum, there's impressive evidence that low NO may be a factor.

If you're planning a trip to Mexico City or Aspen, Colo., both 7,000 feet high, consider improving your NO levels. This could prevent respiratory problems by improving lung function. Tibetans living at high altitudes have 10 times the amount of NO in their blood as those living at sea level!

Dark leafy greens such as spinach contain nitrate that turns into nitrite producing NO. Apple juice, tea, dark chocolate, red wine and a brisk walk also produce NO.

Bryan reports that some people take L-arginine to produce NO. But NEO40, a supplement now available, is more effective in boosting NO because it contains L-citrulline, vitamin C, beet root and hawthorne.

Bryan also states that most people over 40 are low in NO and he recommends two tablets of NEO40 daily until the level of NO increases, then one tablet a day. An easy saliva test is included to show your level of NO. So it's one pill where you can actually monitor the improvement gained by NEO40.
