Water Supply Contaminated With Antidepressants May Cause Autism

by: D Holt

(NaturalNews) A report by the University of Idaho claims that antidepressants in drinking water can trigger the condition in people that have a genetic disposition to Autism Spectrum Disorders. As the UK government dithers over the clean up of the water supply contaminated by pharmaceuticals, the report suggests even small amounts of drugs in the water supply can have devastating effects.

Detox Protocol

Caroline Hattersley, Head of Information, Advice and Advocacy at The National Autistic Society, said: "It's important that we expand research into the causes of autism. We know that environmental and genetic factors have some role to play, but our understanding is still very limited as it is such a complex disability."

Many researchers and health campaigners have drawn their own conclusions as to the source of the sharp rise in autism rates. Many point to the sharp rise in the use of the MMR vaccine, which correlates almost exactly with the rise in autism, whilst others point to the rise of additives in food. Autism Spectrum Disorders are a complex issue because there is such a huge range of behavior that is classed under the general term "Autism". Whilst there are common factors in the behavior of autistic people, such as problems with social interaction and communication, some have very different needs to others.

Big Pharma made this mess, they should clean it up
Reported in the Daily mail, the findings state that the tests were carried out on fish using two drugs, Prozac and Venlafaxine. The minnows the fish fathered were tested and were found to have genetic pathway changes, mimicking idiopathic autism disorders in humans. The dosages were at the level of the maximum dosages expected in the environment.

"We need to be cautious when looking at these particular findings. Said Ms Hattersley, There is simply not enough evidence to draw any firm conclusions and so people should not be alarmed by this research."

The tests are early research that raise important considerations in the way we impact our environment. It is not only anti depressants, but also contraceptives and agricultural chemicals that have devastated our most valuable resource, water. By pushing dangerous chemicals and drugs on millions of people, who in turn have excreted the drugs into the environment, Big Pharma have made billions of dollars. The environmental implications of these drugs is the need to spend millions upgrading the water purification plants. Surely it is the responsibility of the pharmaceutical companies to pay for this clean up. Meanwhile the emphasis on researching links between autism, ADHD, vaccines and food must still continue. ASD is varied in scope and severity, and so it may be that the disorders may also be caused by different stimuli.

Many Expired or Improperly Stored Vaccines Put Children At Serious Risk

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) A recent report issued by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of the Inspector General contains some shocking new information about vaccines. It turns out that millions of vaccines administered to children every single year are being improperly stored at temperatures that are either too high or too low, or are simply past their expiration dates, which could render them ineffective or even dangerous.

Vaccine Protocol

The 52-page report, entitled Vaccines for Children Program: Vulnerabilities in Vaccine Management, which you can view here (http://oig.hhs.gov/oei/reports/oei-04-10-00430.pdf), is an assessment of 45 vaccine providers that operate under HHS' Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. This program distributed 82 million doses of taxpayer-funded vaccines to roughly 40 million children just in 2010, at a cost of $3.6 billion.

For the analysis, a team of investigators chose 45 VFC providers from around the country that ordered the highest number of vaccines for distribution in 2010. They visited each of the sites, observed their vaccine handling practices, interviewed their vaccine coordinators, and generally compiled an assessment of the overall effectiveness of each operation.

They discovered, however, that 76 percent of these high-volume VFC providers were storing vaccines at temperatures that were either too hot or too cold for at least five cumulative hours throughout the day. Thirteen providers were also storing expired vaccines alongside non-expired vaccines, which means they were not paying attention to this crucial information on package labeling.

"[T]he selected providers generally did not meet vaccine management requirements or maintain required documentation," says the report. "Similarly, none of the five selected grantees met all VFC program oversight requirements, and grantee site visits were not effective in ensuring that providers met vaccine management requirements over time."

Medical establishment now blaming vaccine mismanagement for whooping cough outbreak
Remember back in 2010 when the medical establishment blamed unvaccinated children for the inexplicable outbreak of whooping cough that spread across California? Even though it was later shown that most of the children who contracted whooping cough had actually been vaccinated for whooping cough (http://www.naturalnews.com), the system still blamed unvaccinated children in an attempt to convince more parents to get their children vaccinated.

Well, now the medical system is blaming improperly-stored vaccines for a new whooping cough outbreak in Washington state that is reportedly the worst one since the 1940s. Some news media sources are once again blaming unvaccinated children. But interestingly, an ABC News report suggests vaccine management problems could be to blame.

This could just be an attempt to whitewash the failure of whooping cough vaccines in general. Whooping cough vaccines that are properly stored and not expired still do not provide protection against the disease, which means improperly stored and expired whooping cough vaccines are a convenient scapegoat for explaining disease outbreaks. Or perhaps some in the mainstream media have simply grown weary of blaming unvaccinated children for outbreak, a tactic that, in all honesty, is embarrassingly unscientific and irrational.

In either case, these new revelations just go to show how disastrous America's vaccine system truly is. And what is even worse is that with these admissions, authorities are still urging parents to have their children vaccinated, even though this could mean that they end up getting jabbed with an expired, degraded or inactive vaccine loaded with highly-toxic chemicals.

Medicine Mafia Style

by: Craig Stellpflug

(NaturalNews) Is your doc on the Big Pharma payroll? Federal whistleblower lawsuits have charged that drug companies reward cash to doctors who dole out prescriptions for their drugs. Big Pharma companies such as Merck and Eli Lilly have disclosed $258 million in payments nationwide in 2009 and the first half of 2010. ProPublica reports $26.4 million dollars paid out to doctors in California in that same period. But these are just totals from the seven pharmaceutical companies while over 1,000 other drug, device and medical supply companies were not included in this figure.

Big Pharma companies are well known for paying kickbacks and other inducements to physicians, hospitals, and pharmacies for prescribing their drugs. Some doctors who prescribe large amounts of drugs are given gifts such as liquor, gift cards, lavish meals, paid travel, tickets to sports events, paid golf outings and gift certificates. Others receive direct cash payments of up to several hundred dollars to watch a sales representative flip through a book of promotional drug "visuals," or to watch a video on the sales representative's laptop.

Big Pharma targets high prescribing doctors for expense paid resort events called "drive-to's" and "fly-to's." Big Pharma "consultant" meetings are staged at high-end restaurants with lavish diners and sometimes lucrative "honorariums" are paid to the physicians for showing up. Big Pharma companies pay doctors thousands of dollars to give presentations about off-label use of a product or device and likewise, doctors attending these presentations are paid to listen.

A NY Times article mentions that large numbers of doctors receive payments of sometimes hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars from drug and device companies every year in exchange for providing advice and giving lectures. All told, about a quarter of doctors take cash payments and about two-thirds of doctors routinely accept gifts of food, including lunch for staff members and dinner for themselves.

The Times reported that doctors who take money from drug makers often practice medicine differently from those who do not and are more willing to prescribe drugs in risky and unapproved ways, such as prescribing powerful antipsychotic medicines for children.

What's being done about it?
A suit filed way back in 2007 by former Bristol-Myers employees in the Superior Court of the State of California was sealed until recently when it was joined by California's insurance commissioner to sue Big Pharma giant Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. The suit accuses the company of bribing "high prescribing" physicians with trips to basketball camps, free concert tickets, autographed basketball merchandise, liquor, golf outings and other rewards to boost prescriptions. Low-prescribing doctors were told that they would not receive free samples or event invitations.

In Michigan, lawmakers and physician groups both opposed an incentive program launched by Blue Care Network, which ran a three-month campaign to pay doctors $100 for each patient who switched from a brand name drug to a generic cholesterol-lowering medication. The American Medical Association even posted a statement on its Web site that reads: "A physician accepting payment from an insurer in exchange for moving a patient from a brand name to a generic drug could potentially face both criminal and civil liability exposure under the federal antikickback statute."

A rocky start at best
Under the new health care law, the more than 1,100 drug, device and medical supply companies will have to file reports of doctor payments as of October 2011 (didn't happen yet). Of course, this will generate large amounts of new data for federal officials to inspect and a nightmare of drug company record audits to make sure the reports were accurate and complete. When it gets up and running, companies will be fined up to $10,000 for each payment they fail to report.

Is your doctor on the Big Pharma payroll? Can your doctor be trusted to not be blinded by the flash of cash?

Possible Cancer Breakthrough? Cold Virus Hitches A Ride To Kill Cancer

Scientists have discovered when a cancer-killing virus is injected in the bloodstream it hitches a ride on blood cells and evades attack from the
immune system, allowing it to reach cancer tumors, and start destroying cancer cells
. They suggest this means it may be possible to use promising “viral
therapy” during routine outpatient sessions, like chemotherapy, to treat a wide range of cancers.

Immune Booster

Certain viruses, like the reovirus, that causes colds and mild stomach upsets, prefer to attack cancer cells. They also stimulate the immune system to attack
tumors.

Using these “oncolytic” viruses to kill cancer is a fairly new approach that is currently being tested. Trials are currently under way to test “viral therapy” as an
approach to treat cancer in human patients.

But the challenge is how to get the viruses into tumors without alerting the immune system to destroy them. One way is to inject them into the tumors, but this
is technically difficult and particularly so for tumors that are deep inside the body, such as in the lungs, stomach, liver and pancreas.

Another way could be to inject the virus into the bloodstream; however, scientists have assumed this would not be feasible because the virus would likely be
spotted and destroyed by the immune system before it could reach the tumor.

But when a group of scientists decided to test this by injecting the virus into the bloodstream of patients with advanced colorectal cancer, they found the virus
was able to evade the immune system by “going under cover” and hitching a ride on red blood cells.

The study, led by researchers from the University of Leeds and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in the UK, reveals how the “hitch-hiking” virus is shielded
from antibodies
in the bloodstream that might otherwise neutralize its anti-cancer properties.

The team writes about its work in a paper published online in Science Translational Medicine on 13 June.

The study participants were 10 patients with advanced colorectal cancer that had spread to the liver and who were scheduled to undergo surgery on the
secondary tumors in their livers.

In the weeks leading up to their surgery, all patients received up to five doses of the reovirus as outpatients.

From blood samples taken shortly after treatment, the researchers found that the active virus associated with blood cells. Later samples showed the virus was
no longer in the blood cells and had quickly cleared from the system.

When the researchers examined samples of liver tissue removed during surgery up to four weeks later, they found “viral factories” and active virus in the tumor
samples but not in normal tissue samples. This confirmed the virus had travelled specifically to the tumor after being injected into the bloodstream.

Professor Alan Melcher of the University of Leeds, and Dr Kevin Harrington from The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust,
jointly led the study.

Melcher told the press:

“It seems that reovirus is even cleverer than we had thought. By piggybacking on blood cells, the virus is managing to hide from the body’s natural immune
response and reach its target intact. This could be hugely significant for the uptake of viral therapies like this in clinical practice.”

Harrington commented that:

“Viral treatments like reovirus are showing real promise in patient trials. This study gives us the very good news that it should be possible to deliver these
treatments with a simple injection into the bloodstream,” he added.

He said if these treatments could only be delivered by injecting into the tumor, they would have limited use, but discovering that the virus “can hitch a ride on
blood cells will potentially make them relevant to a broad range of cancers“.

“We also confirmed that reovirus was specifically targeting cancer cells and leaving normal cells alone, which we hope should mean fewer side-effects for
patients,” said Harrington.

Funds from Cancer Research UK, Leeds Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre, University of Leeds, The Institute of Cancer Research, Leeds Cancer Vaccine
Appeal, and the Rays of Hope Appeal, paid for the study.

Radioactive Buckyballs From Fukushima Invade California Beaches

by: J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) As the fallout – no pun intended – from Japan's tsunami-damaged nuclear reactors at its Fukushima complex continues to worsen, scientists are now concerned about another related phenomenon that appears to be invading the U.S. West Coast – buckyballs.

Radiation Protocol

What, exactly, are those? According to a recent University of California – Davis study, in this case the term refers to uranium-filled nanospheres which were "created from the millions of tons of fresh and salt water used to try to cool down the three molten cores of the stricken reactors," said Michael Collins, of EnviroReporter.com – not the small, magnetic balls that cling to each other.

The tiny, stout buckyballs – which resemble soccer balls – are said to have been formed when water hit the super-heated, primarily uranium-oxide, fuel in the damaged reactors at Fukushima. "In this goo buckyballs are formed, loaded with uranium and able to move quickly through water without disintegrating," said the report.

Worse, radiation readings in L.A. and Santa Monica during a 42-day period between December 2011 and January 2012, "strongly suggest that radiation is increasing in the region including along the coast in Ventura County," Collins said, adding that readings both he and the Environmental Protection Agency took appeared to indicate the unnatural presence of radiation.

"Southern California is still getting hit by Fukushima radiation at alarmingly high levels that will inevitably increase as the main bulk of polluted Pacific Ocean water reaches North America over the next two years," he asserted.

Radiation believed to be five times normal levels along parts of West Coast

Collins said he began monitoring for increased levels of radiation within four days after a devastating earthquake-caused tsunami struck the Fukushima complex, heavily damaging at least three of the site's nuclear reactors. Today, he says, radiation levels at both the Los Angeles and Santa Monica sites are about 5.3 times the norm. The Santa Monica site transmits radiation readings to the L.A. Basin area 24/7, Collins said.

The author noted that more than 1,500 radiation tests have been conducted in the area since the disaster, including samples taken in a commercial airliner.

"[E]ven accounting for higher radiation at higher altitudes, readings were more than five times normal according to the manufacturer of our Inspector Alert nuclear radiation monitor," Collins wrote.

The U.C. – Davis study said the radioactive buckyballs were hearty and potentially able to "transport uranium over long distances," being stable and consistent in the absence of peroxide.

While experts in the mainstream media debate whether any toxic levels of radiation are already bombarding the U.S. West Coast or if it is on its way, what is known is that radiation, in some forms, has already made it to American waters.

NaturalNews.com reported May 30 that tuna caught off California's coastline contained higher-than-normal levels of radiation, though most scientists said and continue to say, such levels are safe.

"I wouldn't tell anyone what's safe to eat or what's not safe to eat," Daniel Madigan of Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station, told Reuters. "It's become clear that some people feel that any amount of radioactivity, in their minds, is bad and they'd like to avoid it. But compared to what's there naturally … and what's established as safety limits, it's not a large amount at all."

Madigan said researchers found higher levels of two radioactive isotopes of the cesium element, 137 – which was present in the eastern Pacific before the disaster at Fukushima Daiichi – and 134, which is caused only by manmade activities and wasn't present before the tsunami smashed into the plant.

Better off having radioactivity in the ocean?

Ken Buesseler, a Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, wrote on CNN.com that the fact most of Fukushima's radioactive fallout landed in the ocean, rather than on land, was actually a good thing.

"In many ways we were fortunate that impacts were largely confined to the ocean. Certainly, the Japanese people continue to feel devastating effects of so large a release within their country, and many people may never be able to return to their homes. But in general the winds during the height of the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant were blowing offshore," he said.

"As a result, more than three-quarters of the radioactivity fell on the ocean. This is important, as any that lands on soil remains in place, resulting in the potential for greater human exposure and increased chances of contamination to food supplies and property," Buesseler continued.

Nevertheless, some radioactive measurements show disturbing trends, he said, such as levels "of radioactivity found in fish are not decreasing and there appear to be hot spots on the seafloor that are not well mapped."

10 Healthy Reasons To Enjoy Real Butter

by Margie King
Butter has gotten a bad rap for many years, starting in the last century with the rise of margarine, which we now recognize as a deadly trans fat.  More recently, butter has been shunned in favor of olive oil and canola oil. But here’s why we should reserve a place at the table for good old-fashioned butter.

A study from Lund University in Sweden shows that butter leads to considerably less elevation of fats in the blood after a meal compared with olive oil, flaxseed oil or a new type of canola oil. High blood fat normally raises cholesterol levels in the blood, which according to the discredited "lipid hypothesis," elevates the risk of atherosclerosis and heart attack.

Why doesn’t butter raise blood lipid levels?

Researchers pointed out that 20 percent of the fat in butter consists of short and medium-length fatty acids.  These are used directly as energy and do not stay around long enough to affect blood fat levels very much.

The researchers opined that although butter raises blood cholesterol in the long term, its short-term effects may actually be advantageous.

Not everyone agrees that butter’s advantage over olive, canola or vegetable oils is only a short term phenomenon. Sally Fallon of The Weston A. Price Foundation is a staunch and eloquent advocate of the benefits of butter and disagrees that butter or cholesterol is a factor in the increase of cardiovascular disease.

The vast fat-free conspiracy

Since the early 1920’s butter has been pushed aside in favor of margarine and other fad fats and vilified as a deadly saturated fat that causes heart disease. Yet for thousands of years before that, butter was a dietary staple of many cultures with no evidence of adverse health effects.

Between 1920 and 1960, Americans’ use of butter declined from 18 pounds per person per year to 4 pounds, yet heart disease went from a relatively unknown condition to the number one killer. So how likely is it that butter is killing us?

According to Fallon, butter is the victim of a vast fat-free conspiracy, formed by those who benefit from replacing healthy butter with disease promoting mass produced vegetable oils and trans fats.

The truth is that butter is good for you.  Here are 10 benefits of eating real, fresh creamery butter:

1.   Butter is the most easily absorbable source of vitamin A which supports the thyroid and adrenal glands, and in turn, the cardiovascular system.

2.   Butter doesn’t lead to excess body fat since its short and medium chain fatty acids are burned for quick energy and not stored, and it also gives a feeling of satiety that may decrease cravings and over-eating.

3.   It’s rich in anti-oxidants including vitamins A and E, as well as selenium protecting against heart disease as well as cancer.

4.   Butter is a good source of dietary cholesterol which acts as an anti-oxidant, repairing damage from free radicals caused by rancid fats, vegetable oils and trans fats. Cholesterol is also important for the development of the brain and nervous system in children.

4.   The saturated fat in butter consists of short and medium chain fatty acids which have anti-tumor properties and also strengthen the immune system.

5.   Butter contains conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) which are cancer protective.

7.   When in its raw state and not pasteurized, butter has an anti-stiffness property called the Wulzen factor, that protects against arthritis, cataracts and hardening of the arteries.

8.   Butter is a good source of iodine in a highly absorbable form and necessary for proper thyroid function.

9.   It promotes gastro-intestinal health and decreases rates of diarrhea in children.

10. Butter is a good source of vitamin K2 which prevents tooth decay and builds strong teeth and bones.

Remember that the richest benefits are found in raw butter made from pastured cows.

Associated Press Caught Lying About Water Fluoridation

by: Ethan A. Huff

(NaturalNews) It seems as though every time an American town or city drops the added fluoride chemicals from its water supply, the dinosaur media comes out with its usual talking points about how water fluoridation is one of the greatest public health interventions ever granted by the government to its minions, and that without added fluoride chemicals, everyone's teeth would rot right out of their heads.

Detox Protocol

These are just a few of the many deluded and outdated lies that get repeated over and over, ad nauseam, every time a community dares to challenge the prevailing fluoride dogma of the day — and these are lies that, fortunately, many people are learning to simply disregard. But one of the more sneaky lies now getting repeated is the one which implies that added fluoride chemicals are no different than the naturally occurring fluoride elements already present in many water supplies.

In a recent piece published at emissourian.com, for instance, which reads more like an epitaph, the Associated Press (AP) bemoans the fact that Pevely, Missouri, a local community near St. Louis, has decided to stop adding fluoride to its water supply in order to conserve much-needed funds. And in memorializing the great loss of its beloved fluoride in Pevely, the AP makes false insinuations that added fluoride chemicals are exactly the same as naturally occurring fluoride minerals.

After commenting about how fluoride minerals are naturally present in water supplies throughout the St. Louis area, the unidentified AP writer explains how these levels are not "optimal." He or she then goes on to say that cities that fluoridate their water supplies are simply topping off fluoride levels to reach this so-called "optimal" range, making no differentiation between natural fluoride and chemical fluorides like hexafluorosilicic acid and sodium hexafluorosilicate.

Added fluoride is a toxic poison often loaded with arsenic, mercury, and other toxins
Last year, Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, put together a short video entitled The Fluoride Deception that explains where fluoride chemicals actually come from, and why they are different from naturally occurring fluoride. Many people were surprised to learn that fluoride chemicals are nothing but toxic waste byproducts of aluminum and fertilizer production, and often contain arsenic, mercury, and other toxic chemicals (http://tv.naturalnews.com/v.asp?v=42652E035A1B1BAAAE1F340B54694975).

But the AP utterly fails to make this distinction, and deliberately attempts to trick readers into thinking that the fluoride chemicals added to water are the same as naturally occurring fluoride minerals. This is becoming a common deception tactic as an increasing number of communities abandon fluoride, and one that the natural health community must address head-on when dealing with pro-fluoride fanatics who simply regurgitate what the health "authorities" are telling them.

The Fluoride Action Network (FAN) has a wealth of information about fluoride, including its many health consequences (http://www.fluoridealert.org/). Oddly enough, fluoride ingestion is linked to causing tooth decay, not preventing it. Fluoride has also been found to destroy bones and vital organs, and is now linked to the current epidemic of thyroid disorders since it displaces iodine in this important gland.

"There's no dispute that too much fluoride damages teeth, actually making them more decay-prone," says Paul Beeber, a lawyer and President of the New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation. A 2007 study cited by Beeber's group explains that, "In most European countries, where [water fluoridation] has never been adopted, a substantial decline [75 percent] in caries (cavities) prevalence has been reported in the last decades."

Water Extinguishes Stomach Acid 175x Faster Than Some Drugs

by Sayer Ji

Could the water people swallow their acid reflux pills with be more therapeutic than the drugs themselves?

In 2008, a remarkable study took place comparing a glass of water to an antacid and "acid blocking" drugs, in their overall effect in increasing gastric pH (i.e. making it more alkaline) in healthy subjects.

Published in the journal Digestive Diseases & Science,[1] researchers took 12 healthy subjects who were screened to be negative for Helicobacter pylori infection, and gave them a single oral dose of the following agents:

  • A glass of water (200 ml)
  • Antacid
  • Ranitidine (Zantac)
  • Omeprazole (Prilosec/Losec)
  • Esomeprazole (Nexium)
  • Rabeprazole (AcipHex)

Gastric pH was recorded for six hours after drug intake.

The study found it took the following duration to increase gastric pH >4:

  • Water increased pH >4 in 10/12 subjects after 1 minute
  • Antacid increased pH >4 in 2 minutes
  • Rantidine increased pH >4 in 50 minutes
  • Omeprazole increased pH >4 in 171 minutes
  • Esomeprazole increased pH >4 in 151 minutes
  • Rabeprazole increased pH >4 in 175 minutes

The results were discussed in greater detail:

Gastric pH >4 lasted for 3 min after water and for 12 min after antacids; it remained >4 until the end of recording in: 4/12 subjects with ranitidine, 11/12 with rabeprazole, and all with omeprazole and esomeprazole.

While the duration of action was shortest for water, the authors noted at the outset of their study that the onset of action is of key importance in when it comes to treatment:

Onset of action of antisecretory agents is of pivotal importance for patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treated "on demand."

What would you rather do? Get instant relief with a glass of water, which has loads of side benefits to your health, or wait between 50 minutes to 175 minutes (close to 3 hours!) as the excess acid burns the lining of your stomach, using a chemical class of drugs which have the potential to cause the following unintended, adverse side effects:

  1. Clostridium Infections
  2. Diarrhea
  3. Pneumonia
  4. Vitamin C Deficiency
  5. Gastric Cancer
  6. Bone Fractures
  7. Magnesium Deficiency
  8. Myopathies
  9. Vitamin B12 Deficiency

[View the entire list of 30+ adverse effects on our Acid Blocker Research page.]

Of course, water will only "water down" a problem that is often a direct result of bad food combining, excessive portions, food-body incompatibilities, acute or chronic stress, undiagnosed overgrowth of pathogens, and environmental allergies, to name but a few known contributing factors. But, water can do no harm, whereas using chemicals to poison the proton pumps or histamine receptors on the parietal cells in the stomach into shutting down acid production has an obvious set of serious side effects that can and should be avoided, whenever possible.

Remember that before the symptoms of chronic heartburn were reified and concretized into the "disease" of acid reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) people took responsibility for and control over their condition by going back to the basics, e.g. diet, lifestyle, stress, etc.

For additional research on natural, albeit palliative "acid reflux" solutions, GreenMedInfo.com contains a list of two dozen substances which have been researched to have potential therapeutic value.  Take a look by visiting our Acid Reflux research page.  Also, consider eliminating wheat, as it has a prominent dark side which may have profound bearing on chronic heartburn symptoms.

Iodine To The Rescue

by Mark Sircus

Anyone who tells you to stay away from iodine is a medical idiot. Actually that statement does not cover the story of medical cruelty and the pharmaceutical terrorism that is centered on iodine phobia that is rampant in the medical world today. One of my neighbors, who has cancer, recently visited the Gerson Clinic in Mexico and came back with a protocol suggesting one drop of Lugol’s a day.[1] I of course have him taking much more.

Lugol's Iodine and Video

Dr. Gabriel Cousens recently wrote, “Recently Dr. Mercola surprisingly stated that the highest amount of daily iodine intake should be no more than 400 micrograms. This is only slightly higher than the FDA recommendation, which is 150-290 micrograms daily, dependent upon age, gender and life cycle. However, it is dramatically less than what some of the leading iodine medical experts suggest, as closer to, at least, 12-18 milligrams daily, approximately 45 times higher. Why this discrepancy? And how can Dr. Mercola, who is often so correct in his understanding, in my opinion, miss the mark exponentially?”

The National Institutes of Health specifically cites Lugol’s iodine as being poisonous, and according to the powers that be in the medical world, so is water because it can kill people through drowning. Pure O2 is also very poisonous so they have to add CO2 to oxygen bottles before patients can use it. The National Institutes of Health and every other health and medical organization in the United States do not understand or appreciate the science of low-level toxicities so they allow the use of highly toxic materials in things like vaccines. Thimerosal, which is 50% organic mercury, is a perfect example. It is injected into newborns in many countries around the world and into American babies at age six months.

Cousens states, “Historically, as early as 1911, people normally took between 300,000-900,000 micrograms daily without incident. This is over 2,000 times more than Dr. Mercola’s recommendation. How is it that now only 1/5,000th of this dose is now considered safe? In 1948 there was a poorly performed and, since then, never replicated study alleging what is known as the Wolff-Chaikoff effect. The Wolff-Chaikoff effect suggested that theoretically hypothyroidism could occur as a result of excess iodine. This study indicated a decreased dosage to 2 milligrams daily would be safer. (This is still an amount 5 times higher than what Dr. Mercola is recommending.) Even the Food and Nutritional Board at the Institute of Medicine has set the tolerable upper limit of 1,100 micrograms of iodine daily (3 times higher than Dr. Mercola’s recommendation). Other researchers have used between 3,000 and 6,000 micrograms/day to prevent goiter (14 times higher than Dr. Mercola’s recommendation). Iodine is found in every single one of our body’s hundred trillion cells. Without adequate iodine levels life is impossible. Iodine is the universal health nutrient and brings health on many levels.”

In Dr. Cousens’ essay and in my book, Iodine—Bringing Back the Universal Medicine, we see that much higher levels of iodine supplementation have been used in studies since the early 1900s so where Mercola,[2] or anyone else gets off on suggesting that large amounts of iodine would be harmful is beyond me, especially because we know that high intake of iodine is associated with a lower risk of breast cancer. We also know that low iodine intake is associated with liver cancer.[3]

Women with a history of low iodine levels (hypothyroidism) face a significantly higher risk of developing liver cancer. Researchers led by Manal Hassan of Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas concluded that this finding suggested a clinical association between hypothyroidism and hepatitis C, which is contributing to the country’s rising rate of liver cancer.

I reported in my book that Dr. Brownstein uses between 200 and 300 milligrams of iodine daily, with higher doses for more serious and difficult diseases. In perspective, this seemingly “high” dose is still far lower than what the 11th edition of the 1910-1911 Encyclopedia Britannica cites as the “usual” doses of 300-900 milligrams (300,000-900,000 micrograms!) of iodine daily.

“At 6 grams daily (which is 6 million micrograms/day or 6,000 milligrams/day!), a much higher dose, iodine has been used to cure syphilis, skin lesions, and chronic lung disease,” says Cousens. “From a larger physiological perspective, it is important to realize that the thyroid is only one gland of many glands and tissues that needs iodine. Other glands/organs/systems with high iodine uptake are the breasts, ovaries, cervix, blood, lymph, bones, gastric mucosal, salivary, adrenal, prostate, colon, thymus, lungs, bladder, kidney, and skin. Iodine is found and used in every hormonal receptor in the body,” he states.

Cousens’ essay lists the important functions of iodine:

1)      Iodine helps synthesize thyroid hormones and prevents both hypo- and hyperthyroidism.
2)      Iodine sufficiency reverses hypo- and hyperthyroidism.
3)      Iodine supports apoptosis.
4)      Iodine activates hormone receptors and helps prevent certain forms of cancer.
5)      Iodine protects ATP function and enhances ATP production.
6)      Iodine prevents fibrocystic breast disease.
7)      Iodine decreases insulin needs in diabetics.
8)      Iodine helps support protein synthesis.
9)      Iodine deficiency is a global health threat.
10)    Iodine destroys pathogens, molds, fungi, parasites, and malaria.
11)    Iodine supports immune function.
12)    Iodine eliminates toxic halogens from the body (including radioactive I-131).
13)    Iodine regulates estrogen production in the ovaries.
14)    Iodine is anti-mucolytic (meaning it reduces mucus catarrh).
15)    Iodine neutralizes hydroxyl ions and hydrates the cells.
16)    Iodine makes us smarter.
17)    Iodine prevents heart disease.
18)    Iodine is needed with the use of cordless phones, cell phones and now smart meters to prevent hypothyroidism.
19)    Iodine supports pregnancy (as the fetus undergoes more apoptosis than any other developmental stage).
20)    High doses of iodine may be used to reverse certain diseases.
21)    High doses of iodine may be used for wounds, bedsores, inflammatory and traumatic pain, and restoration of hair growth when applied topically.
22)    Iodine helps in the diminishing of tissue scarring, cheloid formations, and Dupuytren’s and Peyronie’s contractures, which are hyper-scarring conditions.
23)    Iodine supports spiritual development.

These are all reasons to ingest higher doses of iodine. With the radioactive iodine circulating from Fukushima the issue with iodine supplementation is now critical, especially for fetuses and very young children.

Cruelty in Action

Newly revealed tapes, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show the unconscionable failure of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to protect California infants from radioactive fallout from the meltdowns at the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant in Japan.

NRC officials calculated an annual thyroid dose of 40,000 microsieverts (or 4 REM) for infants under one year of age in California. Per the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services division of Radiation Emergency Medical Management division (REMM), a child’s dose of 5 REM is immediate grounds for evacuation and prophylactic measures. (REM does not specifically reference an infant dose) Thus, the projected government dose of 4 REM was 80% of the suggested evacuation rate.

Iodine-131, a radioactive isotope, is primarily taken up by the thyroid gland. It is a bio-mimicker. The thyroid gland requires iodine to function. In a nuclear accident large amounts of radioactive iodine-131 are released and this was certainly the case for Fukushima, especially in the early days. The thyroid gland is unable to differentiate between regular iodine and radioactive iodine and will uptake whatever chemical form it is presented with especially when one is already iodine deficient.

The negative health consequences of iodine-131 target the sensitive populations of the pregnant, unborn, babies and children up to 10 years of age most aggressively. If iodine-131 is inhaled or ingested it lingers in the body wherein it emits radioactive energy that results in internal damage mainly to the thyroid and parathyroid glands.  According to the EPA iodine-131′s short half-life of 8 days means that it will decay away completely in the environment in a matter of months but with devastating affects to the thyroid tissues if God forbid those tissues be deficient in iodine.

The unborn, infants and children have tiny thyroid glands and an overall small body mass. Thus when ingested, a particle of iodine-131 can direct tremendous and damaging energy at cells at a much greater ratio than in an adult.

Critical uptake facts[4] per the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry

  • Newborn babies will uptake iodine at rates 16 times higher than adults.
  • Infants under the age of one have an eight times higher uptake than adults.
  • Five-year-old children have four times the adult uptake rate.
  • Pregnant mothers have increased thyroid uptake, most noted in the first trimester.
  • The unborn have an increased thyroid uptake in the second and third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Nursing mothers can secrete 25% of iodine reserves to their babies.

The children have taken a beating from Fukushima but only a handful of people seemed concerned. The first way we as parents can show our concern is to stock up the house with iodine and use this essential mineral liberally with our children.

After testing over 500 patients, I found that 94.7%
of my patients are deficient in inorganic iodine.

Dr. David Brownstein

Of course most people, doctors and health professionals really don’t get it. You might as well be the Americans at Pearl Harbor and imagine it even worse—as the Japanese planes dive-bomb the ships and everyone just sits there inert, never running for the guns to shoot back.

This is an excellent analogy because the dive-bombers coming in on the jet stream are radioactive particles from Fukushima and the anti-aircraft gun we need to grab in this case is iodine. But don’t shoot back hard says Mercola, use the gun with the least amount of bullets.

I expect a full apology and retraction from Dr. Mercola who has taken it upon himself to address millions of his readers on this most important medical subject. His readers need to know the truth, not just his uneducated or commercially motivated opinion. He cannot turn to the medical literature and defend his position. Dr. Gabriel Cousens did that and the history of iodine’s use annihilates Mercola’s recommendation showing it to have no relationship with medical truth.

I join with Dr. Gabriel Cousens (I only wish he would lighten up his stance on medical marijuana because it is another gun against radiation and every other kind of stress) at this momentous time to confront this issue about the sponge-like nature of our children’s thyroids to radioactive iodine.

Dr. David Brownstein said, “After testing individuals and finding low iodine levels, I began to use smaller milligram amounts of iodine/iodide (6.25 mg/day). Upon retesting these individuals 1-2 months later, little progress was made. I therefore began using higher milligram doses (6.25-50 mg) to increase the serum levels of iodine. It was only with these higher doses that I began to see clinical improvement as well as positive changes in the laboratory tests.”

Dr. Michael B. Schachter says, “The treatment dose when a person is iodine insufficient is generally between 12.5 mg and 50 mg daily. Preliminary research indicates that if a person is iodine insufficient, it takes about three months to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 50 mg of iodine and a year to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 12.5 mg of iodine daily. However, the patient needs to be monitored closely with awareness of possible side effects and detoxification reactions.”

There are many forms of iodine and please read my lips on this one—they are all good though some are better than others, much better though more expensive. If one cannot find an oral type of iodine, even painting one’s body with topical iodine will help. I do recommend minerals in liquid form rather than solid because of absorption issues.

My favorite iodine, the one I personally use is Nascent and I was involved with the creation of the formula. For many months I switched to less expensive Lugol’s and felt okay about that but when I came back to Nascent it was to stay. Nascent iodine is iodine in its atomic rather than its molecular form. It is an iodine atom that has an incomplete number of electrons meaning it can hold an electromagnetic charge. Nascent iodine has a large energy release when consumed because energy is saved. Nascent iodine is recognized by the body as the same iodine that is produced by the thyroid so it is absorbed effortlessly by the body. It is not inexpensive so I always recommend Lugol’s and any other iodine even if in pill or topical form.

The information in this essay and in Dr. Cousens’ can save your life or one of a loved one. Iodine is an essential Survival Medicine for the 21st Century. We are also at the very end of the age of antibiotics so watch out and learn to use iodine effectively against just about anything pathogens can and will throw against you. It is getting very dangerous out there in many senses so don’t leave home without your iodine.

And now we hear from the World Health Organization who is warning of a growing drug resistance in sexually transmitted gonorrhea that is becoming untreatable. Additionally an outbreak of a less-common form of E. coli has sickened at least 14 people across six U.S. states and killed a 21-month-old girl in New Orleans, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports. Iodine is effective against E-Coli.[5] Super high dosages of iodine might save the day when nothing else will.

Everyone needs to know how to use iodine—it’s as simple as that.
