Antioxidant Cocktail Slashes Pancreatic Cancer Risk

by: John Phillip

(NaturalNews) Pancreatic cancer is a particularly deadly form of the disease that takes the lives of nearly 40,000 people in the US each year. Mortality rates for pancreatic cancer are high (five year survival rate is less than three percent) as the disease is typically not suspected or diagnosed until it has progressed to an advanced stage and metastasized to other major organs. Similar to other cancers, pancreatic cancer develops as a result of dietary digressions after the large exocrine gland fails to meet metabolic demands from a diet high in processed, hormone-infused animal protein, hydrogenated fats and sugar.

Antioxidants

Researchers publishing the results of a ground breaking study in the British Medical Journal, GUT found that increasing dietary intake of the antioxidant vitamins C, E, and selenium could help cut the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by up to two thirds. Although the study is observational in nature and can only suggest an association, not a cause-and-effect relationship, researchers believe following a diet with optimal intake of the nutrient trio could prevent eight percent of pancreatic cancer cases.

Dietary antioxidant trio dramatically lowers the risk of developing pancreatic cancer
To conduct the study, researchers tracked the health of more than 23,500 individuals, aged 40 to 74 years who had entered the EPIC study between 1993 and 1997. Participants completed a comprehensive food diary, detailing the types and amount of every food they ate for seven days, as well as the methods they used to prepare it. Dietary nutrient values were calculated using a specially designed computer program.

After 10 years, 49 participants (55 percent of whom were male) had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. By 2010, the number of participants diagnosed with pancreatic cancer increased to 86 (44 percent were men). Due to the extremely high mortality rate associated with this invasive form of cancer, patients averaged a six month survival rate after diagnosis. The nutrient intakes of those diagnosed with the disease were compared with nearly 4,000 healthy people to see if there were any differences.

Researchers found that a weekly intake of selenium in the top 25 percent of consumption roughly halved their risk of developing pancreatic cancer compared with those whose intake was in the bottom 25 percent. Participants with the highest intake of all three nutrients (vitamins C, E, and selenium) were 67 percent less likely to develop pancreatic cancer than those who were in the bottom 25 percent. Dietary antioxidants are the cornerstone of cancer prevention and must be consumed daily from a variety of freshly prepared foods to dramatically limit the risk of pancreatic cancer and other deadly, chronic diseases.

Love, Romance and Travel Can Be Keys To Health and Longevity

by: Tony Isaacs

(NaturalNews) Isn’t love grand? Besides being exciting and fulfilling, it also turns out that it is good for your health and longevity. Studies and experts agree: having a caring and loving relationship can lead to a healthier, happier and longer life. Traveling with a partner can make it that much better.

Intramax

The health benefits of a loving, caring relationship
Experts agree that it takes a happy, calm and stable relationship to yield the best health benefits and they caution that an unhappy relationship can result in negative health consequences. When you do have a positive relationship, here are some of the many benefits according to experts and research:Stronger immune systemResearchers at Carnegie Mellon University found that people who exhibit positive emotions are less likely to get sick after exposure to cold or flu viruses

Faster healing

Ohio State University Medical Center researchers found that blister wounds healed nearly twice as fast in spouses who interacted warmly toward each other.

Better cardiovascular health

People with stable relationships also tend to have more stable blood pressure. A study in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine found happily married people had the best blood pressure, followed by singles. Unhappily married participants fared the worst.

Less depression and substance abuse

According to a Health and Human Services report, getting married and staying married reduces depression in both men and women. Marriage also contributes to a decline in heavy drinking and drug abuse, especially among young adults.

Longer life

A growing body of research indicates that married people live longer. One of the largest studies found that people who had never been married were 58 percent more likely to die than married people.

Note that though most studies have focused on marriage, other loving and caring relationships likely have the same benefits – for example, partners, parents, or friends. “There is solid evidence that people who participate in satisfying, long-term relationships fare better on a whole variety of health measures,” says Harry Reis, PhD, co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Human Relationships.

Protect Yourself From West Nile Virus Naturally

by: PF Louis

(NaturalNews) Mosquitoes are on the rise this summer, and several cases of West Nile virus infections from mosquitoes have been reported in Texas along with a few deaths. Other states have reported cases of West Nile virus infections as well.

Colloidal Silver

Immune Protocol

After first appearing in the U.S. in New York in 1999, the virus spread throughout the nation. The worst of West Nile infections occurred during 2002 and 2003. Then severe illness reactions occurred to almost 3,000 with over 260 deaths in the USA.

Last year was a slow year for West Nile, as fewer than 700 cases were reported. But the CDC has announced that the disease is off to an early start this year. Some experts are citing heavy rainfall, especially in normally dry areas, that could create a situation similar to 2002 and 2003.

The viral infection can be transmitted from mosquitoes who feed off the blood of infected birds that act as vectors for the virus. Mosquitoes feeding off birds can suck the virus to infect humans and mammals before the birds die.

The good news is that humans and animals don’t transmit the disease to other humans and animals. Other good news is that 80 percent of humans who get infected don’t even show symptoms.

Those who do show symptoms usually manifest within the range of a bad case of the flu, except for the unlucky one out of 150 cases that get severe symptoms including paralysis, permanent neurological damage, or even death.

It’s generally recognized that the best remedy is to prevent mosquito bites.

The conventional toxic drug endorsement is for insect repellents containing DEET. They advise a 20 to 30 percent level of DEET to avoid adverse reactions. But any amount of DEET is hazardous to the neurological system. Even if you don’t keel over dead, you may be harmed.

Fortunately, there are some good, natural alternatives:

Neem oil was researched by scientists at the Malaria Institute in India. They concluded that Neem oil was superior to repellents containing DEET, and their findings were confirmed by the Journal of the Mosquito Control Association and the National Research Council.

Soy oil repellents were found to be as effective as DEET repellents, according to a New England Journal of Medicine report. Just make sure the soy oil source is at least non-GMO. Organic soy is best.

Catnip oil was found to be considerably more effective than DEET in Iowa Universtiy lab experiments, 10 times more effective. But the testing was not done on mammals.

Citronella and Lavender oils are traditional and acceptable insect repellents. But don’t use their fragrance products. Use the essential oils diluted in water or dilute them in a natural skin

Eucalyptus oil is the subject of controversy on several internet sites advocating natural insect repellents. Some consider Listerine, the mouthwash, to contain enough eucalyptus while others doubt the oil’s content in Listerine to be sufficient.

But there is a lemon-eucalyptus spray on the market that protects against mosquitoes called Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Repellent that has been tested successfully. It lasts longer than low DEET solutions but not as long as high DEET solutions. So spray a little more often.

Many health food stores and herbalists carry at least some of these oils. Concentrated essential oils can be toxic. So dilute them enough to maintain potency while keeping them non-toxic.

If you miss out on getting mosquito protection and get early flu signs after any mosquito bites, use a potent natural anti-viral flu medicine extracted from elderberry that you can purchase for short term and make as a tincture for the long term.

Alzheimer’s Is Really Just ‘Type-3’ Diabetes, New Research Shows

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) Emerging research on the widespread degenerative brain disease known as Alzheimer's suggests that this prevalent form of dementia is actually a type of diabetes. Published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, a recent study out of Rhode Island Hospital (RIH) confirms that Alzheimer's is marked by brain insulin resistance and corresponding inflammation, a condition that some researchers are now referring to as type-3 diabetes.

Chromium

Dr. Suzanne de la Monte from RIH is the one responsible for making this fascinating connection, having found in her research that diabetes is closely associated with several key neuronal factors implicated in dementia. It turns out that Alzheimer's progresses as a result of the brain developing resistance to insulin, which in turn prevents proper lipid (fat) metabolism. Over time, these lipids build up in the brain rather than properly absorb, which results in increased stress and inflammation, as well as the symptoms commonly associated with dementia.

"This study points out that once AD (Alzheimer's Disease) is established, therapeutic efforts should target several different pathways — not just one," says Dr. de la Monte. "The reason is that a positive feedback loop gets going, making AD progress. We have to break the vicious cycle. Restoring insulin responsiveness and insulin depletion will help, but we need to reduce brain stress and repair the metabolic problems that cause the brain to produce toxins."

Eating more healthy saturated fats like coconut oil can help prevent, cure Alzheimer's
Since many elderly individuals that have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's take statin drugs to lower their cholesterol levels, the first logical step would be to stop taking these drugs. Not only have statins been shown to cause and exacerbate Alzheimer's, they have also been shown to cause diabetes. So taking them, as many elderly dementia patients do, runs contrary to common sense, and will only make the problem worse.

As we covered recently here at NaturalNews, the human body needs cholesterol in order to stay healthy. If your cholesterol levels are too high, or if cholesterol is clogging your arteries, it means that your body has an inflammation problem that is preventing the proper absorption and use of cholesterol. Cholesterol is not the problem, in other words — your body's chronic inflammation is the problem. (http://www.naturalnews.com)

Consuming more healthy saturated fats like coconut oil can not only help repair the inflammation problem that promotes the progression of Alzheimer's, but it can also increase the absorption of cholesterol in the brain, which in turn promotes healthy neuronal function. (http://www.naturalnews.com) Such advice runs contrary to the mainstream medical system's misguided philosophies about health, but science actually shows that the human body requires saturated fats and cholesterol, and that these fats are vital for maintaining optimal brain health.

"[W]hile it is positive to see studies like this help us understand some of the causes of Alzheimer's Disease, turning to drugs to treat these symptoms is heading in the wrong direction," says Health Impact News (HIN) about the RIH study. "Type-2 and type-3 diabetes is a lifestyle issue, and can be controlled or even prevented by dietary choices and avoiding too many drugs. There has also been tremendous success in controlling and eliminating diabetes through a low-carb and high-fat diet."

Mainstream Media Pushes Malicious Fluoride Lie

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger

(NaturalNews) The mainstream media is at it again, lying to the public about fluoride. This time, the culprit is HealthDay, a "canned news" service that spits out lies and disinformation to be published by subscribing websites. Recently, HealthDay put out a story by author Alan Mozes claiming that bottled water might be harming children's dental health because there's no fluoride in it!

Detox Protocol
Colloidal Silver

And to really push their lie, they print the following conglomeration of total disinfo:

A salt formed from the combination of fluorine and soil and rock minerals, fluoride is voluntarily added by the vast majority of states and/or local municipalities…

This statement is, of course, a complete fabrication. The so-called "fluoride" actually added to municipal water supplies does not come from soil and rock minerals; it comes from industrial waste facilities and phosphate mining scrubbers: http://tv.naturalnews.com/v.asp?v=905DEA3798062673BC2C54E981BC8F07.

Much of it is imported from chemical companies in China, and it often contains over 100 different chemicals — including radioactive elements — which aren't even fluoride!
http://tv.naturalnews.com/v.asp?v=670D87333DF262F0EFE6422816901CC1

These toxic chemicals are so highly corrosive that they eat metal, undercover footage reveals:

Mandatory, not voluntary!
Even worse, HealthDay tries to make fluoride sound like something everybody wants by saying it is "voluntarily added by the vast majority of states…"

This is a lie as well. Fluoride is mandatory in the water for those people who are unfortunate to live in a fluoridated area. They never "volunteered" to have fluoride in their water. They were never given a choice. To write that fluoride is "voluntarily added" — against the will of many members of the public — is wholly deceptive. To people turning on their tap water, fluoride is mandatory!

Saying that fluoride is "voluntary" is like saying breathing air pollution is voluntary, too, because chemical plants "voluntarily" spew toxic pollution into the air. Such word choice is highly deceptive journalism, if you can even call it journalism. (It's really just blatant propaganda.)

And, again, it's not even fluoride to begin with; it's a toxic cocktail of industrial waste chemicals. Nevertheless, this completely dishonest, lying news story by HealthDay was republished by:

• US News & World Report
• iVillage.com
• Phys.org
• Health24.com
• Newsday.com, with the lying, deceptive title "Bottled water might harm kids' teeth." (http://newyork.newsday.com/news/health/bottled-water-might-harm-kids-…)

… and many other "mainstream" news sites which are little more than chemical pushers that poison the population and sell out to a corporate agenda.

The real story on bottled water
What HealthDay didn't report, of course, is that parents choose bottled water largely because they want to avoid the toxic fluoride found in tap water.

• People buy water filters with special "fluoride removal filters" specifically to take the fluoride out!

• Many restaurants now advertise their water as being "filtered, fluoride-free water."

• Everywhere across America, informed people are saying they want NO FLUORIDE in their water.

Ever wonder why? According to recent research published by Harvard University, consuming fluoride lowers your IQ. Yep, fluoride makes you stupid.

Harvard University researchers wrote, "The children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ than those who lived in low fluoride areas. …Fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in animal models and acute fluoride poisoning causes neurotoxicity in adults, very little is known of its effects on children's neurodevelopment."

Even the EPA says fluoride is a chemical "with substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity." (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/harvard-study-finds-fluoride-lowers-…)

"It's senseless to keep subjecting our children to this ongoing fluoridation experiment to satisfy the political agenda of special-interest groups," says attorney Paul Beeber, NYSCOF President (www.FluorideAction.net) "Even if fluoridation reduced cavities, is tooth health more important than brain health? It's time to put politics aside and stop artificial fluoridation everywhere," says Beeber.

The bottom line
People want bottled water to be free of chemicals like fluoride. Only uninformed, ignorant people purchase bottled water with added fluoride. Parents who feed their babies fluoridated bottled water are poisoning their babies with a neurotoxin that will make them stupid.

HealthDay wants to make you stupid. Drink more fluoride, lower your IQ, and you too can work for a mainstream media news disinformation publisher whose articles advocate the mass poisoning of the American people.

Prozac is 18% fluoride
Above all, remember this: What you are seeing in this push for fluoride in bottled water is a desperate attempt by globalist controlled to make sure that people cannot avoid the mind-numbing effects of fluoride. The availability of clean, filtered bottled water has angered the globalists because it gives people a way to avoid consuming fluoride chemicals. This, in turn, causes more people to awaken from their mind-numbed slumber and start questioning the world around them.

Yes, Prozac is 18.4% fluoride, by molecular weight. Luvox is 17.9% fluoride. Paxil is 6.1% fluoride. All these drugs numb your mind, using fluoride as the key element that reacts with your brain tissue.

When you drink fluoride, you're not only being poisoned with toxic chemicals and radioactive elements, you are numbing your mind to reality, pushing yourself into a "zombie" state in which you'll believe almost anything you read. Even including mainstream media news stories.

GMOs Cause Animals To Lose Ability To Reproduce

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) A study presented at the Days of Defense Against Environmental Hazards in Russia has unveiled once again the implicit dangers associated with the consumption of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs). According to Voice of Russia, scientists from the National Association for Gene Security and the Institute of Ecological and Evolutional Problems discovered that animals fed GMOs as part of their normal diet eventually develop the inability to reproduce.

Detox Protocol
Colloidal Silver

A shocking revelation; the study is one of several that has identified a link between GMO consumption and infertility in recent years. And because it was conducted independently of the biotechnology industry, it came to far different conclusions than have most of the studies offered up for mainstream consumption in defense of GMOs.

Using hamsters as the test subjects, scientists observed that consumption of GM soybeans, which have never been a part of these creatures' normal diets, tended to slow sexual maturity and gradually eliminate the ability to reproduce. After several generations, hamsters consuming the "Frankensoy" eventually lost their innate ability to reproduce.

"We selected several groups of hamsters, kept them in pairs in cells and gave them ordinary food as always," said Dr. Alexei Surov, one of the authors of the study. "We did not add anything for one group but the other was fed with soya that contained no GM components, while the third group with some content of Genetically Modified Organisms and the fourth one with increased amount of GMO."

Dr. Surov and his team then monitored the various groups of cubs, including their rates of growth and birthing frequencies, and compared their findings to the cubs' diets. After several generations of cubs breeding with each other, the team observed that those cubs who ate GMOs as part of their diet eventually became completely sterile.

"[W]e noticed quite a serious effect when we selected new pairs from [the] cubs and continued to feed them as before," added Dr. Surov. "These pairs' growth rate was slower and reached their sexual maturity slowly. When we got some of their cubs, we formed the new pairs of the third generation. We failed to get cubs from these pairs, which were fed with GM foodstuffs. It was proved that these pairs lost their ability to give birth to their cubs."

Will widespread GMO consumption make future generations of humans infertile?
An Austrian study uncovered similar harm in mice that consumed GM corn. An immediate consequence among the mice eating the "Frankencorn" was that their offspring weighed less than normal, and overall litter size became smaller. After three or four generations, mice who came from GMO-eating parents and grandparents became completely infertile. (http://www.naturalnews.com)

Farmers across the U.S. have also reported infertility among pigs and cows that consume GM feed. And in India, an investigatory team observed infertility and other serious problems among buffalo that were consuming GM cottonseed.

War On Home Gardens – Canada Town Outlaws Food Self-Sufficiency

by: Ethan A. Huff

(NaturalNews) A Canadian couple that has been growing a beautiful, meticulously-maintained front yard vegetable and herb garden has been ordered by city officials to uproot most of it by September 1 or else face lofty fines. CBC News and others are reporting that the town of Drummondville in Quebec is actually planning to ban all front yard gardens in the municipality beginning this fall; a move the spells the end of food self-sufficiency for many Canadians living in the area.

Michel Beauchamp and Josee Landry love to grow their own food. But the back yard of their well kept, Saint-Charles area home does not get enough natural sunlight throughout the day to grow the many varieties of fresh fare they have long enjoyed. So they asked their town's Environmental Services Inspector if it was permissible to grow food in their front yard, and they were given a verbal affirmative that this was not a problem.

"They used to have flowers growing, but Beauchamp has high blood pressure and wanted to eat healthier. So they planted cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchinis, beets, onions, and Brussels sprouts, among other vegetables," said CBC News about the garden. According to the same report, Beauchamp has lost an astounding 75 pounds since first planting the garden, and much of this is due to his having been able to grow and eat his own healthy food at home.

Drummondville changes its mind, betrays Beauchamp and his wife
But after the couple invested roughly $2,500 to install the garden, which is among the most tasteful and orderly front yard gardens that you will likely ever see, by the way (http://grist.org/list/city-officials-are-waging-a-war-on-gardens/), Drummondville officials turned on the couple and told them that they would have to remove most of their garden or else face a daily fine of up to $300 — and the couple was given just seven days to comply with this demand.

According to city officials, every front yard garden in Drummondville has to contain at least 30 percent grass, a requirement that Beauchamp and his wife did not comply with when they installed the garden. It does not appear that the couple was ever even told about the requirement; as they had previously received approval to plant the garden as it currently is.

When Beauchamp and his wife challenged the city on the order, officials did not relent, but instead gave the couple a compliance extension, telling them that they had until September 1 to rip up part of their garden. The two are still fighting the city over the issue, though, and continue to try to convince officials to do away with the silly ordinance.

"It must be a right to be able to grow our own vegetables on our land," said Beauchamp to CBC News. "It is nonsense to ban it."

Meanwhile, Drummondville officials are moving forward with a new ordinance that will completely restrict front yard gardens altogether, no matter their size, which puts Beauchamp and his wife and many others out of the food self-sufficiency business. Since many back yards in the area are too small or do not receive the proper amounts of natural sunlight, many areas' residents will essentially be restricted from ever growing their own food unless they move.

Food oppression also escalating in the U.S.
Similar jack-booted oppression by local officials is taking place in the U.S. as well, including in Tulsa, Okla., where a woman recently had her entire front yard garden illegally bulldozed by city officials (http://www.naturalnews.com). Similar cases of home-grown food destruction have taken place in Georgia, Michigan, and New Jersey.

FDA Kept Deadly Anemia Drug Dangers A Secret To Protect Pharma Profits

by: J. D. Heyes

(NaturalNews) The agencies and bureaucracies of our Leviathan government were created for our own good, we are constantly told, which is also the excuse we're given anytime a group of lawmakers or citizens calls for any of them to be dismantled.

Detox Protocol
Colloidal Silver

That excuse may no longer hold water for the Food and Drug Administration which, according to a recent Washington Post report, could have some liability in covering for a drug that a growing body of research says is dangerous and deadly.

For many years, the report said, three drugs known as Epogen, Procrit and Aranesp were among the top-selling prescription drugs in the U.S., raking in more than $8 billion annually for a pair of Big Pharma corporations – Amgen and Johnson & Johnson. In fact, these two companies were stars among stars; for a number of years, Epogen was the single costliest medicine under Medicare, costing U.S. taxpayers as much as $3 billion a year.

"The trouble, as a growing body of research has shown, is that for about two decades, the benefits of the drug – including 'life satisfaction and happiness' according to the FDA-approved label – were wildly overstated, and potentially lethal side effects, such as cancer and strokes, were overlooked," the Washington Post reported.

Shocking, to say the least, but there's more.

Medicare researches last year said, in an 84-page study, that they found among most kidney patients – the original and largest market for the trio of drugs – no solid evidence the medications made anyone feel better, improved their chances of survival or even had any "clinical benefit" outside of elevating one statistic for red blood cell count.

So while the drug companies had made tens of billions in profits over more than two decades, much of it from unsuspecting taxpayers, millions of patients were given dangerous doses of the medications to no advantage.

How?

Economic incentives, willing participants, congressional liability

"To answer the question, The Washington Post obtained the agreements between the drug makers and the Food and Drug Administration, reviewed thousands of pages of transcripts and company reports, and relied on new academic research, some by doctors who once administered the drugs but now look askance at the drug makers' original claims," the paper reported.

The paper said part of the blame comes from economic incentives built into the U.S. healthcare system, which can lead to inefficiencies and potentially deadly uses for drugs. But there is more here than simply that.

Drug makers cannot and will not manufacture and market drugs at a loss, that much is a given. But the FDA, according to the Post's report, shares as much blame as anyone for this travesty. So, too, does Congress.

The paper said Amgen launched a well-funded research and lobbying campaign that was ultimately successful to win "far-reaching approvals" from the FDA. But both companies held drug trials that obviously missed (or ignored) the dangers while touting benefits that, 22 years later, would be disclosed as unfounded.

They also took more than 10 years to fulfill research commitments to the FDA, which – finally – moved to reign in the largest doses of the drugs. The agency was then stifled in its efforts by a "high-powered lobbying effort" aimed at Congress until lawmakers forced regulators to back off.

'It was just easy to do'

Sound familiar?

The paper also points an accusing finger at doctors and hospitals.

"Americans might like to think that doctors focus on only their health. But physicians and hospitals have to pay the bills, too, and, in some cases, the more they treat a patient, the more they earn. This was especially true in the case of the anemia drugs: The bigger the dose, the more they made," said the Post.

Incentives offered to them by the drug makers to increase doses ultimately worked. By 2007, some 80 percent of 175,000 dialysis patients on Medicare were being given the drugs at levels above what the FDA believes now is safe.

"It was just so easy to do – you put this stuff in the patient's arm, and you made thousands of dollars," Charles Bennett, endowed chair at the Medication Safety and Efficacy Center of Economic Excellence at the University of South Carolina and a critic of the use of the drugs in cancer patients, told the paper. "An oncologist could make anywhere from $100,000 to $300,000 a year from this alone. And all the while they were told that it was good for the patient."

Inflammation Is A Major Reason Why You Can’t Lose Weight

by: Eric Hunter

(NaturalNews) It's well established that obesity is characterized by low-level chronic inflammation. Several theories as to how this inflammation occurs have been proposed, but dietary choices seem to be the most important factor involved. It's increasingly recognized that regular consumption of certain foods leads to diet-induced inflammation; which in turn sets the stage for insulin resistance, leptin resistance and other conditions that go hand in hand with overweight and obesity. These conditions make it very hard to lose weight and maintain healthy body weight.

Enzyme Protocol

Studies done on non-westernized populations show that hunter-gathereres have virtually no incidence of obesity, even when they have access to an abundance of food. Excellent health is seen regardless of macronutrient ratio and physical activity. Sugar, grains, refined vegetable oils and certain dairy products are not a part of these ancestral diets, while they are eaten in abundance in westernized societies. The available literature shows that humans are poorly adapted to these modern foods and that they promote obesity and inflammation through various mechanisms.

Food and inflammation
Fruits, vegetables and nuts have a cellular storage where they are able to store a maximum density of around 23 percent non-fibrous carbohydrate by mass. These living cells are breached in our digestive system and energy becomes available. Flour and sugar don't have these living cells, and they have a higher carbohydrate density than anything we have consumed on a regular basis during our evolution.

It's already known that obese and lean individuals have different gut flora composition, and Ian Spreadbudy at the Gastrointestinal Diseases Research Unit, suggests that high-carbohydrate dense foods specifically increase the quantity of LPS containing bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract. LPS, Lipopolysaccharide, is an endotoxin which is strongly linked to diet-induced inflammation.

When an inflammatory microbiota is in place, continued consumption of westernized foods increase the absorption of inflammatory molecules into circulation. It's a viscious cycle where a poor diet helps to preserve the inflammatory microbiota, and the microbiota increases our satiety for unhealthy foods.

Anti-nutrients and problematic proteins in grains, legumes and other modern food staples can further contribute to increased circulating LPS and inflammation.

Some individuals will be more prone to the effects of a poor diet than others. In some regions of the world, cereal grains have been a part of the diet for thousands of years and certain adaptive mechanisms have gotten a chance to evolve.

Low-carbohydrate diets
Low-carbohydrate diets are very effective in promoting weight loss. The reduced carbohydrate consumption in itself and lower insulin levels are often considered the most important factors involved in weight regulation. Based on knowledge about inflammation and obesity, it's likely that the limited consumption of acellular carbohydrates and proinflammatory anti-nutrients and proteins, also are very important in reducing inflammation and promoting weight loss on these diets.

Choosing nuts, fruits and vegetables as carbohydrate sources on a low-carb diet is important
when trying to lose weight on a low-carbohydrate diet, even 20-100 grams of carbohydrates from sources like flours and sugar can help maintain an unhealthy gut flora, and the elevated fat intake can then further increase the circulation of LPS and other PAMPS, pathogen-associated molecular patterns. Not paying attention to carbohydrate sources on a low carbohydrate diet is consistent with failure.

Dietary choices are vital
Avoiding processed foods, high-density carbohydrates and other modern food staples will reduce inflammation and promote weight loss.

Reduced carbohydrate consumption is beneficial when trying to improve insulin resistance, leptin resistance etc. Restoring these functions should allow for an increased consumption of fruits, berries, root tubers and other vegetables while still maintaining good health.

Five Foods That Can Help Improve Your Digestion

by: Jonathan Benson

(NaturalNews) Digestive upset is one of the most prolific, chronic conditions people suffer from today — and in many cases, digestive disorders are a direct result of eating a poor diet composed of processed, genetically-modified (GM), and dead foods. And if you are one of the many millions of people who suffers from digestive problems, incorporating foods that are rich in enzymes, probiotics, fiber, and other important nutrients is absolutely vital, and could change your health dramatically for the better.

Enzymes
Probiotics
Below is an outline of five fantastic foods that can help you promote and maintain proper digestive balance in your intestinal system, which will in turn ensure that nutrients are properly assimilated, and waste properly eliminated. This is not an exhaustive list, but rather a few strong suggestions for improving your health and well-being that you can implement in your life today.

Fruit, particularly pineapple and papaya. Snacking on junk food, or even just food that is high in carbohydrates, tends to "clog" up the digestive tract and lead to bloating in many people. Instead of reaching for the crackers or chips when the hunger pangs start, why not grab some fruit instead? Pineapple and papaya are particularly beneficial foods for promoting good digestion, as both contain proteolytic enzymes such as bromelain that possess anti-microbial and anti-ulcerative properties, and that helps break down other foods and assimilate their nutrients.

Fermented, probiotic foods. Unless they are freshly squeezed, most juices and other beverages are pasteurized, and contain no living enzymes or beneficial bacteria that are meant to help maintain a healthy flora balance in the gut. To help improve intestinal health, it is important to consume foods and beverages that have been fermented, cultured, or that otherwise contain living nutrients essential in proper digestion. Such foods include yogurts, kefir, kombucha, raw apple cider vinegar, kimchi and other fermented vegetables, and sauerkraut, just to name a few.

Miso soup. Traditional miso, which is not necessarily the same thing as the miso soup served at your local Chinese restaurant, is another fermented food that happens to be high in protein, and has long been a staple food in traditional Japanese culture and cuisine. Authentic miso, which involves a double fermentation process, contains cultured soybeans or grains combined with natural salt that can be steeped in warm water to produce a hearty, savory beverage that will make your stomach feel happy and healthy.

Avocados. Rich in healthy fats and fiber, avocados are an excellent gut-friendly food that is well-digested by virtually everyone. The unique combination of healthy fat and fiber — avocados are one of the most fiber-rich foods known to man — promote proper digestive flow, as well as maintain a vibrant pancreas, gall bladder, and liver, three organs that deal with body cleansing.

Red beets and their greens. Another vegetable rich in fiber, the red beet, greens and all, is known for maintaining the proper flow of food through the digestive tract. Rich in vitamins, minerals, and beneficial enzymes, red beets promote a healthy gut lining and smooth muscle fiber function, which encourages normal and regular bowel movements. When eaten whole or juiced, red beets and their green tops help to promote healthy liver, kidney, and gallbladder function, as well as provide the body with natural choline, iron, potassium, and magnesium, the latter of which is vital for proper digestive health.
