McDonald’s Attacks Teen Named “McClusky” Over Trademark Infringement

by: David Gutierrez

(NaturalNews) McDonald's has initiated a legal battle against 19-year-old Lauren McClusky over her attempt to trademark the name of a charity festival.

McClusky, whose father is radio promoter Jeff McClusky, has held three annual fundraisers for the Chicago chapter of the Special Olympics. The first year, she co-organized the festival with a person whose name also began with the prefix Mc, so they dubbed it McFest.

After the third year, McClusky filed to make McFest into a registered trademark. McDonald's responded by filing against the request. At first, McClusky said, she was "kind of honored" that McDonald's had even noticed her event.

"But when we realized how serious it was, then it just got ridiculous and offensive," she said. "They just wouldn't listen."

McDonald's financially supports the Special Olympics and has stated that it has no intention of interfering with charitable fundraising.

"However, the law requires us to guard against third parties that infringe our trademarks and to take the necessary action to stop those infringements," spokesperson Ashlee Yingling said. "We believe the mark at issue, 'McFest,' is similar enough to our brand name and McDonald's famous family of 'Mc' trademarks that it's likely to cause confusion under trademark standards and/or dilute our valuable trademark rights."

McDonald's trademarks include McPen, McBuddy, McBurger, McDouble, McFree, McJobs, McLight, McPool, McProduct, McRuler, McShades, McShirt, McWatch and the prefix "Mc."

"But not McFest," McClusky said. "The whole reason I called it McFest in the first place is my name."

Although McDonald's and McClusky have both expressed a desire for a peaceful resolution, they remain in a standoff. McDonald's refuses to withdraw its complaint, and McClusky is unwilling to accept McDonald's sponsorship for her event. Due to the work she has already put into building local awareness and recognition of the fundraiser, she is also unwilling to change the name.

"It's hard to change the name of something that's already established and locally known," she said.

Fight Diabetes with the Power of Zinc

by: Anthony Gucciardi

(NaturalNews) Diabetes is an escalating issue in the United States, and there are no signs of this health ailment diminishing. According to the American Diabetes Association, 23.6 million adults and children have diabetes in the U.S. That is 7.8% of the population according to the latest data formed from 2007, and 1.6 million new cases are diagnosed each year. Luckily, there are many natural remedies that may aid in suppressing the negative effects of diabetes. Many of these remedies may completely cure or prevent diabetes when used properly.

Zinc
IntraMax

Research shows that zinc, an essential trace element responsible for over 300 enzyme functions, can aid in normalizing the negative effects of diabetes mellitus. According to the study, zinc has been shown to mitigate the harmful effects of diabetes by improving glycemic control in type I and type II diabetes. Many of the enzyme systems in which zinc is a necessity for are involved with the metabolism of blood sugar, and therefore make zinc a natural catalyst for insulin secretion.

The pancreas is an endocrine gland responsible for producing hormones like glucagon, somatostatin, and – you guessed it – insulin. The beta cells that secrete insulin in your pancreas are also highly stored with zinc. Without the high concentrations of zinc, the beta cells suffer. Luckily, beta cells are equipped with their own special transporter called 'zinc transporter 8', which makes it easy for the beta cells to store the zinc. However, it is known that any metamorphosis of the genes in the zinc transporter 8 causes type 2 diabetes. It is also now known that antibodies against the zinc transporter are present in type 1 diabetic patients, which means that these antibodies are associated with type 1 diabetes.

It is no wonder why zinc is as popular as it is for supplementation. In addition to mending the difficulties brought on by diabetes, zinc also serves to maintain a healthy immune system, controls hair loss, halts impotence, improves brain function, prevents loss of taste or smell, and much more. Although supplementation is a viable option to obtain the amount of zinc that you need, it is not the only option thanks to the abundant amount of foods rich in zinc that are available to the general public. To reap the many benefits of zinc, one could include any of the following foods into their diet:

Look into the Lyme Disease Mysteries, Part II

by: Paul Fassa

(NaturalNews) Lyme disease victims have organized and clamored for prolonged antibiotic treatment from mainstream medicine, with its attendant insurance financial support. For the most part, it has been rejected since the existence of chronic Lyme disease is denied by most of mainstream medicine and health insurance. Instead of realizing that not tolerating years of antibiotics is a blessing, chronic Lyme sufferers continue to pursue this path with blinders on, ignoring the plethora of safe and effective alternative methods that do exist "outside the box" for Lyme disease.

Advanced Colloidal Silver

Homeopathy

One of the baffling characteristics of Lyme disease is the variety of different diseases, mostly neurological, that it mimics. This array of symptoms is listed in Part I of this series, which appears to make it ideal for homeopathy.

Inexpensive homeopathic remedies are selected and potencies determined according to the individual's physiology and existing symptoms. If it appears that the Lyme victim has MS, the homeopathic doctor doesn't prescribe an MS or Lyme disease pill. Instead, all the symptoms are noted along with other factors, and the patient is prescribed accordingly.

Then after a period of time, several days or a couple of weeks, the patient makes another visit and the then current symptoms are noted and another prescription can be made. In other words, as the symptoms change, so do the homeopathic remedies, until the patient is cured.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)

This form of oxygen therapy is perhaps the least attacked by regulatory agencies. This is partly because the practitioners haven't claimed they cure cancer, and maybe more so because the military at its highest levels has testified in Congress that they see HBOT as a remedy for suicidal or neurologically impaired vets.

An HBOT chamber resembles those diver decompression chambers used to remedy the bends, suffered by deep sea divers who don't decompress coming to the surface. But instead of simulating the diver's original depth and decreasing the pressure in the chamber, the patient is slipped into the chamber; then, the pressure is increased and held. This is usually done with 100 percent oxygen, but not always.

Dr. Kenneth Stoller, President of the International Hyperbaric Medical Association (IHMA), explains that once Lyme becomes chronic, the spirochete bacteria become sequestered internally in cells that protect it against antibiotics. But this spirochete cannot survive an oxygen rich environment under pressure. HBOT has had positive results with Lyme.

Other Therapies

It would appear that Ozone Therapy or any oxygenating therapy could produce similar results. But Ozone Therapy has been under constant attack from the FDA, mostly for its excellent track record with cancer. That's why you may have to travel out of the USA to undergo Ozone Therapy.

Many Lyme disease victims have recovered by using Rife type frequency machines. Rife technology also has a good track record on cancer from decades ago, and that's why it was suppressed also. But it is still possible to purchase one's own Rife type machine at a reasonable price. Instructional materials need to be purchased from other sources.

In a recent interview by Health Ranger Mike Adams, Charlotte Gerson disclosed that a Lyme disease patient was cured using the late Dr. Max Gerson's cancer protocol in their Mexico clinic. Used in conjunction with other remedies and dietary changes, nano-particle colloidal silver has demonstrated benefits as well.

Note: All these alternative remedies, and others not mentioned, are effective with many other chronic ailments as well. Lyme victims could end their endless agony and frustrations with mainstream medical medicine by looking into other safer, efficacious solutions, starting with the sources below.

Look into the Lyme Disease Mysteries, Part III

by: Paul Fassa

(NaturalNews) As more is being discovered about Lyme disease (LD), its true contagious nature and the origins of its bacterial infections, more suspicions have compounded about a Plum Island bioweapons lab being the source of Lyme disease. Plum Island is just off the tip of Long Island, a stone's throw from the Lyme, Connecticut area where the disease was first reported in 1975.

Advanced Colloidal Silver
LD Contagion Worse Than Thought

The pathogen responsible for LD is spirochete Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb), the wiggly form of Bb. It is a cell wall deficient (CWD) bacteria, which makes it difficult to destroy since most antibiotics function by destroying the cell walls of bacteria.

It has been believed that Lyme disease was transferred only from insect bites, mostly ticks. But evidence has emerged for many to believe otherwise. Though infected insects may be the point of initial transfer to humans, there have been babies who were born with Lyme disease because of the mothers' infection. A few families have a majority of family members with LD. Were they all bitten by insects? One researcher has discovered Bb in tears, so wiping one's eyes could spread it manually.

A few medical research scientists and doctors have discovered Bb in virtually all studied victims of Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, fibromyalgia, and others. How many other chronic degenerative diseases, often with neurological symptoms, can be related to this Bb pathogen? Remember, LD mimics many diseases.

There are several doctors and researchers who believe that LD or the Bb pathogen has contaminated millions internationally, but most of them have been diagnosed with standard neurological or degenerative diseases. Many methods of Bb contamination in addition to tick bites have been exposed since 2000.

So we have a mysterious pathogen that mimics many diseases, making it difficult to diagnose, is difficult to isolate and destroy, is contagious, and incapacitates all those infected. That certainly fits the criteria of an effective bioweapon!

Plum Island

Plum Island is where Lab 257 has been located since 1954, ostensibly for animal viral research. That soon morphed into bioweapons research, which was supposedly canceled by Richard Nixon in 1969. But later documents revealed that bioweapon research had continued in secrecy. Plum Island is the open air laboratory for Ft. Detrick, the notorious bioweapon center in Maryland.

From NY attorney Michael Carroll's book, Lab 257: The Disturbing Story of the Government's Secret Plum Island Germ Laboratory: "Plum Island presents more vectors for the spread of infectious disease than perhaps anywhere else. Ticks [there] have a long and varied menu: droves of small foraging birds… a tantalizing wild deer habitat, and thousands of mice and rats for tick larvae and nymphs to feed on. Plum Island is a Lyme disease tinderbox."

Lone Star hard ticks, formerly indigenous only to Texas, suddenly proliferated in the Long Island/Connecticut area right around the time LD broke out. No one could explain how they suddenly migrated there. Hard ticks are bioweapon researchers' ticks of choice for spreading pathogens to wild life.

Despite government denial, there have been some discoveries concerning bioweapon research on mycoplasma, living particles of bacterial nucleic acid without cell walls, pointing to Plum Island's involvement with LD. Some US government scientists hold a patent on a pathogenic mycoplasma fermentans converted into a crystalline form. This patent includes the disease symptoms of LD that can be carried by insects or birds! Crystalline mycoplasma fermentans contains the Bb that causes Lyme disease.

Attorney Michael Carroll, knowledgeable health experts, and LD victims consider infected insects or birds released inadvertently or intentionally from Plum Island as the source of worldwide Lyme disease in all its disguises.

The Best Organic Pet Food Brands Revealed

by: Ethan A. Huff

(NaturalNews) A stroll down the pet food aisle at the local pet store can be overwhelming. The shelves are full of countless brands all claiming to have the best formulations for your furry friend. Many brands are now selling "natural" and organic lines in order to attract discerning shoppers who are concerned about finding the healthiest food for their pets. So which brands truly deliver?

While some people may argue that fresh or raw foods are the best route to take when feeding your pet, not everyone has the time to prepare these kinds of meals, or access to affordable ingredients in order to make them. While many premium pet food brands can be quite expensive themselves, it is often the more practical choice for people who care about their health of their pets but prefer the convenience of dry kibble.

In this review, I will highlight a few of the best organic dry pet food brands I have found based on the quality and source of their ingredients. While I would highly recommend investigating them for yourself, these are some of the best formulas that use at least 95 percent organic ingredients, and the companies seem to embody principles that are in line with our philosophy here at Natural News.

Also, it is always good to sample these products first to make sure your pet will eat them. If your pet is used to some of the cheaper brands that use additives to improve palatability, it may not like some of these premium formulas which often do not smell or taste the same.

Castor & Pollux Organix
Another excellent organic dry pet food is the Castor & Pollux Organix line of pet foods. The first ingredient in every Castor & Pollux dry food is certified organic, free-range chicken. Most of the ingredients are organic and the ones that are not are still reviewed and approved by an organic certifying agency.

Like PetGuard, none of the Castor & Pollux Organix products contain any ethoxyquin, and they are free of common allergens like corn and wheat. Some of the formulas do contain organic soybean seeds, however, so make sure your pet is not allergic to them before buying.

My dog happens to love Castor & Pollux Organix canned chicken formulas more than any other brand I have tried thus far. And I feel good knowing that the ingredients are mostly organic and do not include dangerous chemicals and preservatives.

For more information about Castor & Pollux, please visit www.castorpolluxpet.com.

Natura Karma
Natura's entire line of pet foods is truly remarkable, but its Karma organic line for dogs is even better. Made from over 95 percent certified organic ingredients, Karma is made of organic chicken and a variety of organic whole grains. It also contains no wheat, soy or corn.

Natura's manufacturing process is also quite impressive, as the food must undergo over 100 quality-control checks before being shipped to stores. Natura also utilizes unique cooking and processing techniques that cook the food as gently as possible, preserving more natural nutrients than most other brands. This is noteworthy because most pet foods are cooked at extreme temperatures which strip them of most of their nutrients and enzymes

The company is also highly committed to sourcing only the best ingredients available. It uses no artificial chemicals or preservatives, and its products do not contain ethoxyquin.

For more information about Natura pet products, please visit www.naturapet.com.

PetGuard
PetGuard is one of the few pet food makers that produces a line of certified organic foods. That certification alone sets this brand apart from most other brands by ensuring that superior ingredients are used in these formulations. The company is family-owned and operated and sources all of its ingredients from the U.S., which is an additional plus. Not every company can make this claim, and when speaking with them directly, I got a real sense about their commitment to quality.

PetGuard's organic line is made with more than 95 percent organic ingredients. Its all life stages dog formula does contain whole ground soybeans, which I consider to be a negative, but at least they are organic. The company also makes an organic vegetarian formula for dogs that is free of soy.

PetGuard uses "human grade" ingredients, though it cannot legally say so. There are no GMOs in any of its formulas and the company uses only natural preservatives like vitamins C and E. There are no animal by-products in any of its formulas and the company does not use ethoxyquin, a dangerous chemical preservative made by Monsanto, in any of its formulas.
